Mountain View has too many jobs
Mountain View Voice: Letters to the Editor (August 11, 2006)
Mountain View has too many jobsEditor:
The Bay Area Council has given Mountain View an “F” for providing housing because of the jobs-to-housing imbalance. The common assumption seems to be that Mountain View doesn’t have enough housing.
I would like to suggest that Mountain View has too many jobs. The Bay Area Council could just as easily have cited Los Altos and Los Altos Hills for not providing enough jobs for their citizens, thus requiring them to drive to Mountain View. We could quickly achieve a more equitable balance by transferring the land that Google sits on to Los Altos.

I’m pretty much speechless. What do you think?

My god, that’s brilliant! Why has nobody thought of it before? Mountain View has a surplus of jobs; places like Flint, Michigan need jobs … so just let Flint annex the Google campus.
You could give the Apple campus to a textile town in North Carolina; Oracle would be nice as part of a Pennsylvania steel town; and just think what it would do for New Orleans’ recovery for them to have the expanding eBay campus.

I think everyone is missing the obvious and most efficient response by the city, county, State, and Fed. They should simply layoff enough two legged tax sponges to get the demographic numbers to an acceptable level. This philosophy worked for “equal opportunity” employment and student body ethnic distribution( wait a minute, why aren’t they busing chinese students out of Cupertino?) it should work here. Perhaps they should bus public employees around to correct the numbers? In any event I agree that too many jobs is a serious problem and I’m sure that the government will solve it.

[...] Finally, where would the Selfish Renters Tax go? Well, it would go to people who have owned property for more than 5 years. After all, they deserve it – they lived here and by doing so, contributed to the vibrancy and specialness of Mountain View. It would also go to local employers to help them move out of the city. Like this resident said in August: Mountain View has too many jobs. [...]
