Something missing from this post is that one of the reasons this house is so expensive is the million-dollar view. This street (La Casa) is in that Fernwood area of San Mateo, where you can see the whole peninsula, bay, east bay and san francisco.

I grew up a little bit up the hill, up 42nd Avenue – my parents bought there in the 70s and still own the house.

I grew up in the Bay Area. It sure WAS special. Now it looks like a third world country, and has the services to boot! Thank god my kids did not attend Bay Area Public Schools. In the 50′s and 60′s they were some of the best in the nation, now they are no better than a glorified baby sitting service. How do I know? ALL of my relatives who live in the Bay Area and care about education send their children to PRIVATE schools. Except for the weather and beautiful scenery the Bay Area is a ” has been” locale.

Is your company in Austin looking for Software Engineers ? I’m currently in the ‘special’ Bay Area, but internal HR blocked me from transferring to Houston. If it’s worth anything I graduated from UT-Austin with a BSCS and also now have a MSCS (from elsewhere).

I am not sure whether to laugh or cry.

People in this state smoke WAAAAAY too much pot.

As for me, I have already received approval to transfer to my company’s Austin office at the end of the year. Bay Area elitists, I know that Austin is not “special”. But alas, beggers can’t be choosers and some of us can actually do math.

But if I may be so bold: I don’t think its the Bay Area that is *special*. I think it is the people. And when I say special, I say so in same context as the “Special Olympics”.

So to all Bay Area home owners, if you can look at that home and state that it is worth the $949k price tag, all I have to say is:
