    Hey Burbed….

That house is horrendous! Are they kidding? Can you find out how much they paid for that piece of crap? 12 thousand maybe? geezzzzz

just got back from a nice Vermont ski vacation. There is a ridiculous bubble there too. Million dollar cottages and NO industry or wages at all in the area.

Well to be fair, vacation areas tend to be bubbly. Look at Hawaii – the median income has never matched the price of homes.

But million dollars… well… that’s probably pushing it. Especially for a property that’s not in a place as beautiful as Sunnyvale.

I think we have no officially moved from the ‘denial’ to the ‘fear’ stage. As evidenced by the recent upswing in new home sales which was only possible through a reduction in prices.

We still have a LONG way to go before things finally find equilibrium. But it is interesting to see the sentiment change in several of my friends who are home owners. The nervousness is definitely apparent.

    Let the games begin!

It is good to separate the idea of bubbly from expensive or overpriced.

The bay area will likely always be expensive. It will not always be overpriced. The same thing is true of vacation areas.

Just because something will always be expensive that does NOT mean it can’t go down in price, just that the level at which it stops at after going down will still be expensive.

If every house in the bay area instantly was being offered at 50% off (so $349,000 for this San Mateo house) that would still be a very expensive area compared to much of the US. But now it may not be the overpriced amount that it lists for today.

They’re only paying $932/year in property taxes, so it’s most likely the original owners. It was built in 1955. The tax assessed value is 65k. If they bought it in 1955, they probably paid 20k for it.
