Building houses takes away water…
Mountain View Voice Mountain View Voice: Letters to the Editor (November 16, 2007)
The Voice’s article on Hawthorne Park reported that Tamara Colby, a member of the Sierra Club, wants high density infill housing on Whisman Road (“Greens clash with neighbors over ‘Hawthorne Park,’” Nov. 9).Ms. Colby does not realize that high density developments are the source of our present traffic congestion problems. Traveling north on Highway 101 is now stop and go, including in the diamond lane, for several hours in the evening from Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto to Ellis Street in Mountain View.
The City Council was asked if they had any responsibly for traffic congestion due to high density housing in Mountain View. They failed to reply during a study session about a Rengstorff development. The mayor stated they do not answer questions in a study session.
Infill housing destroys the efforts of other Sierra Club chapters to save the Sierras and the Central Valley from development. For example, these new residents will require more water. The governor is asking for more dams to store water when the dams we have are only half full. Meanwhile, the Sierra Club is asking for dams to be removed so that the salmon fishery can be restored to its natural level.
The City Council should go for more open space that will not tax the environment, create even more traffic congestion and burden city services such as water, schools, etc.

Amen. Every house you build in Mountain View takes away more water from our environment. It also increases the number of houses available – preventing prices from soaring.
It’s clear that we need to start destroying houses in order to keep Mountain View the way it was, to ensure every homeowner has a chance at selling their pre-1978 house for $4 million, and to save the environment.
Once we succeed in Mountain View – we can then make the rest of the Bay Area look like Hillsborough.

Mountain View is south of Palo Alto.. who wrote this? were they confused?

Infill the Sierra Club goons;
As a grandson and son of former very successful farmers in Mountain View, let me assure you, (short of a 911 style cataclysm and subsequent intelligent planning and rebuilding) unequivacobly that Mountain View cannot ever be what it once was. For those interested in seeing what Mountain View was, the Public Library has a Heritage Room that you can view pictures and files of the city, complete with names of the Rat Bastard/incompetant politicians who killed Mountain View (made it what it is today). The worst thing to happen to Mountain View IMHO is the receipt of untold millions of electronic-related tax dollars flowing in the 60′s until present. There has been a three stooges-style city government of circus clowns each one worse than the one preceeding it ‘running’/ruining the city for the last 40 years running wild with way too much money and too little brains. Re-read the lead in article above this post for proof that the people are CRAZY, ignorant and stupid, to be charitable..
Do Not Listn to anything any of them says. They should be taken out to the farralon islands and made to swim back to shore for their crimes…
Bitter, but Over It… Mountain View, another created So. Bay Ghetto with nowhere to go but DOWN the bowl…
November 19th, 2007 at 4:23 pm
Yeah, Mtn View is basically another BA ghetto, I don’t understand what’s so great about the place. Unless you’re a Scientologist, I can’t see any reason to spend any time there.
November 19th, 2007 at 4:48 pm
To ex-sunnyvale-renter: Yes, MV offers neither “Mountain” nor “View”, but the reason it’s so great is because of its location. You can easily commute to other BA ghettos, and of course to Google, VMWare. MV offers some of the same advantages as Palo Alto, without the high price.

Mountain View day worker center gets city permit

More than two months after the Day Worker Center of Mountain View moved into its new location near the corner of Mercy and Hope streets, the non-profit received its use permit from the city despite stiff opposition.
The center that helps match day workers such as gardeners, carpenters and painters with employers who typically pay cash moved into the Trinity United Methodist Church in late August after its lease expired at Calvary Church on California Street.
The new provisional permit provides the day worker center with additional opportunities, including the ability to do more publicity, said Maria Marroquin, the facility’s director.
“We are almost sure to do an open house” around Nov. 30, Marroquin said.
While Trinity United Methodist Church applied for the permit from the city in late August on behalf of the center, the request was met with resistance from some who feared more crime would result. Others expressed general concerns about undocumented workers, city officials said.
The permit allows the day worker center to operate from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. six days a week.
Councilman Jac Siegel, who was traveling this week, wasn’t certain that Wednesday’s administrative zoning hearing would result in a new permit for the center that assists roughly 75 workers every day.
“I didn’t know if they would get it,” Siegel said. “The council got a lot of opposition.”
Many opponents were concerned about people hanging around outside the

church when they weren’t working, Siegel said.
The councilman said connecting laborers with employers is only one role the center plays.
The 10-year-old day worker center also provides English lessons and instruction in other subjects. It was inspired originally by a need to get workers off the street as they sought employment.
The new permit is a positive step, Siegel said.
The center isn’t sanctioned by the city of Mountain View, said Siegel, adding that California last month passed legislation prohibiting landlords from asking tenants about their immigration status. The issue of illegal immigrants falls under the jurisdiction of the federal government, city planner Melinda Denis said.
As for concerns about an increase in crime, data compiled by the Mountain View Police Department on illegal activity connected to the day worker center’s previous location shows there is no reason to worry.
“We did all the statistics and there was nothing associated with the day laborer center,” police spokeswoman Liz Wylie said.
With a $150,000 annual operating budget, the center found jobs for about 6,500 workers in 2006. It also offers day laborers free breakfast and lunch and pro bono legal advice.
The center also receives financial support from local nonprofits and cities. The Silicon Valley Community Foundation donates $75,000 annually to the center as part of a three-year grant that expires in 2009. Mountain View recently dedicated $10,000 and Los Altos has donated $2,000. Palo Alto, however, rejected its request for $15,000

Various Comments to above Murky-News article. I recommend you lock your doors and know where your children are at all times with these felons free to roam around at will.
Aiding and abetting illegals … really impressive and real classy move there Mountain View.
At least Palo Alto had more sense.
Having these illegals wandering around in groups, bordering a residential area ….. this is beyond ridiculous and beyond any sense of good taste.
An accident waiting to happen.
Wow this is amazing. I thought our cities and public servants were here to serve and protect the tax payers and instead they seemed more concern out illegals and people that aren’t even from here. Is this really what the Mtn View citizens and taxpayers want? Magnets for illegals in their city and right near the main drag off of Castro where so many people come to enjoy or great restaurants? This seems really bad and wrong.
What? Now we are making centers for illegal aliens? How STUPID is that! Boy! Some people just don’t get it, do they. Instead of spending that money on homeless people, or people that are law bidding citizens. Oh NO! Lets spend MORE money on ILLEGALS!!!!!!
ICE WHERE ARE YOU?

Thanks goodness! I’ve been looking for ways to bypass paying any income taxes, and this center helps me make a great income ($30-40/hr) without supporting these silly state and federal taxes for programs that don’t do their jobs! I love this city, and the contractors that keep me happy!

Wonder why California has budget deficit. Illegal immigration is private profit at public expense. Illegal immigration also breeds government corruption. Big businesses that use illegals with government nod may be bribing the powers that be.

How quaint. It’s illegal to ask a prospective tenant if they’re here illegally.
Nice.

One gallon of gasoline should take care of this issue….

This is not an issue of LOVE for your fellow man. If it were, the criminals would not be here to begin with.
This is an issue of LOVE: love for your country, love for protecting your country, love for our way of life.
Most of all, love includes respect. And these criminals have no respect for the US, no respect for US Law, and no respect for law abiding citizens.
How dare these churches confuse matters by aiding and abetting illegal activity under the disguise of some hidden agenda. What a ridiculous and cruel hoax on the true faithful.
Depression and Revolution Coming to a Neighborhood Near YOU Soon.
Happy Holidays!

The illegals don’t worry me any more than the druggies, meth-heads, heroin-heads, fat stupid slackers with tattoos on their immense calves and stupid goat-beards on their jiggling chins, living with Mom’n'Dad or Mom or Dad and going out and stealing tools at night, all that BS and All-American, all-white all-right and wouldn’t know work if it came up and bit ‘em on the ass.

PS was in a McDonald’s today having my double cheeseburger on the dollar menu, and the people at the next table had a RealWhore among them, taking cell phone calls about seeing a place and it’s ready to show, yadda yadda etc etc. There in micky-D’s lol!!
November 20th, 2007 at 1:02 am
Yeah, high density housing in Mountain View would just increase traffic! It’s good that there aren’t any employers in Mountain View with thousands of employees driving to work today, can you imagine what it would be like if there were? Worse, imagine if a large percentage of them were very well off financially and chose to drive BMWs or other high end, non-hybrid vehicles!
November 20th, 2007 at 8:42 am
Kevin – like the big fat ol’ soccer mom SUVs in Palo Alto with the yellow ribbon stickers on their wide asses? You can’t miss ‘em, just be a pedestrian in Palo Alto for a while, it won’t be long before one tries to run you over.

I blame Google for water shortage in the Sierra. Get the f… out of overcrowded and beautiful Mountain View, Google! We all need more water and …lighter traffic at 101&85.

As a resident of Mountain View, the migrant day-laborers are the least of my concerns. At least they’re attempting to work.
November 21st, 2007 at 4:18 pm
Yes, hedda, Mountain View resident
They are attempting to work to exploit and rip off the system, which BTW they are very successful at since the political class is amazing ignorant of realty. See above and SF PLan.
When you feel the sharp cold steel blade of a killer knife up against your throat held there by one or quite possibly more-than-one of your least illegal alien concerns, demanding your money and maybe your life too as your arms are twisted up unaturally between your shoulder blades, and you wince in the most horrible pain you ever felt and cry out in agony for help, but no help will be coming, they are too busy policing illegal alien centers, remember your comment made here.
I’m sure your attackers will appreciate your sanctioning them being here. Maybe after the repeated raping they will say ‘Gracios’ before “Adios” stupid.
Enjoy your Turkey. It will be tastier than the crow you eat for the forseeable future.

Been There: You’re really not as cool as you believe. Actually, you aren’t cool at all. Just go away.
November 26th, 2007 at 10:21 am
Been There is clearly a Mountain View resident. I mean, look at all the crime perpetrated by day laborers, who are often so afraid of being deported they spend all their non-working time at home with their families. How horrible. What with Mountain View’s ONE MURDER A YEAR. Yes, how tragic.
Have you ever even set foot in this town, you small-minded xenophobe?
