Comment spam fighting
To help fight the comment spam, I’ve had to add a new requirement to adding comments: you now have to solve a simple math problem.
If you have any problems, please e-mail me. Thanks!

Thanks Burbed!

3 + 5? crap, how do i start my calculator app again?
this is way better than those crazy letter images that are impossible to read. I once spent about 5 minutes trying to get through one on microsoft’s site

Wow, that could be a major problem for Pralay. He has problem doing addition.

Ya know, if you’re going to harsh on other people, it helps if you don’t have errors in a 2 sentence post.
March 26th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Not to mention that I came here to say that precise thing about you.
March 26th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
About RE, that is to say, not madhaus.
March 26th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
Madhaus, Renter4,
Would you guys stop the spaming?
March 26th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
Burb,
To really keep out the stupid comments, I propose we do Calculus instead!

RealEstater The Make-Belief Hitech Guy,
If I really had that problem I would be in real estate business, just like you. Because that’s the only place where 2+2 gives you 9.
March 26th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
Just another sign of the internet dying under the weight of its own bloat.

That would make the paid RE agent jobless - until “Spring Bounce” arrives. After all he is the only guy who is getting paid for posting comments here.

I want to say something substantive but am sleepy. I WILL say that I’m shocked, shocked, to see ANY BA SFH under 500k, EPA or not.
March 26th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Madhaus, Renter4,
Would you guys stop the spaming?
Remember, this single-sentence post, complete with error, was from the “tech guy” harshing on Pralay about math errors.
Kitchen, heat, out.
Good article in tomorrow’s NY Times on people who think like RealEstater, believing housing prices continue to rise. They refuse to sell and lose even more.

BTW RE, in case you heard about “Calculus” from your college roommate who wanted to make you feel inferior, I would like you to know that it is not all that difficult. Even a stupid person can do it (or people who make “stupid comments”).

Madhaus,
I know what his answer will be. “Real estate is about long term. It will double in 10 years”
Meanwhile, the homeowner who bought his home for $1.474 million in 2005 and unable to sell it for $1.875 million? Well, he has to wait for 10th year until, magically, the price doubles.
March 26th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
I totally did not get those sellers. What could possess someone to insist on 400k profit, within what, 3 years?
Edit: it cracks me up that the editor keeps sending me back to do my sum.
March 26th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
Let’s keep it clean here. Please raise the bar on the discourse here.

not really looking for property in the “real bay area”, but still love this site! keep up the good work, screw the spammers!

burbed, I am sorry for lowering the quality of discussion on your site by my thoughtless reference to The New York Times.

Pralay, re your comment about stubborn sellers, check this out on one of my fave real estate collapse blogs. It’s the story of 4 buyers who all paid too much and what each of them did about it. One of them is still waiting for the Spring bounce.
Enjoy Keep, Rent or Dump.
March 27th, 2008 at 6:41 am
Great, now you’re going to keep all the math-challenged FBs off the site.
March 27th, 2008 at 7:39 am
You should rig it so that it only does addition, because numbers always go up!
March 27th, 2008 at 8:13 am
Pralay is right! I’m stupid, and I’ve done calculus!
This thing is annoying, but then I’d not want to be the site admin dealing with spam etc. We’ll all be completely used to this in a few days.
Meanwhile it’s a fucking pain in the ass.
March 27th, 2008 at 9:16 am
Well if this gets too annoying, I’ll replace it with something simpler. I have some leads.
March 27th, 2008 at 9:41 am
“…solve a simple math problem”
This is so retarded. Who doesn’t know 2+2=5?
Yeah like I’m that stupid…I can solve algebra in my sleep.
March 27th, 2008 at 9:53 am
I’m stupid, and I’ve done calculus!

And that’s why we all are “Priced Out Forever”.
March 27th, 2008 at 11:39 am
burbed, this isn’t stupid. Please don’t replace it with some squinty-eye image recognition garbage. I can never tell a 0 from an O or an I from a 1.
