Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Usually I publish the annual Thanksgiving price comparison – which shows that groceries in the Bay Area are dramatically more expensive than they are in our competitors of Seattle and Washington DC (also known as the “The other places where there are Safeways”). You can see last year’s edition here.
Unfortunately, this year I waited too long, and as a result, Safeway started having crazy sales which made direct comparisons impossible. Whoops. My bad on that.
So, instead, this year I will list what I am thankful for, and I hope you share as well:
- That I have this site.
- That the Bay Area is still incredibly special.
- That the comments on this site are still pretty darn good (compared to… say… youtube comments!)
- That people keep reading this site.
- All the fine people who have donated to the site. Most recently – a $50 contribution from madhaus! Thanks a lot! (You too can contribute!)
Of course, there’s plenty more I’m thankful for, but I’ll leave it short and sweet for today.
What are you thankful for?

Indeed, Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Just want to remind everyone that especially during the holiday season, we need to think about people who are in need and people who need our help. Let us all be thankful that we are so blessed to live in a peaceful environment. Let us hope that the terrorist attack in India will end soon, and give our prayers to those who were victimized.

Yeepee we beat Youtube comments! Our goal is achieved and we can retire now.
I’ll only add this: if you MUST kill a turkey for this Thanksgiving, have a prayer for the family first. They’ll be thankful.

I did what I could for my turkey – it is organic and free range. A hippie turkey!
I’m thankful I have a nice home and a terrific spouse who finally has a break from travel for awhile! Also thankful for:
- burbed.com to feed my sick real estate fixation.
- to live somewhere it will never snow on Thanksgiving.
- that I have this lull between food prep and guest arrival.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Don’t forget to donate to your local food bank this holiday season.

Don’t forget to be thankful for our “special”-ness on foreclosures. The politicians can forbid them & poof, they go down:

Never mind that nothing has changed (i.e., local salaries do not support current prices).

Stock market up again after Thanksgiving. CNBC says these are the best 5 days since 1933!

And we all know right after 1933 — Happy Days Were Here Again!!

Hey fooooooobar, I like your style. Stick around! Actually you remind me of one of our regulars, but why would someone with a paper bag over his head put another one over the first?
What I am thankful for:
- My loving family.
- Our beautiful and overvalued shack.
- That I live in the Most Special Place in the world.
- This really enjoyable site, both the great articles and the snarky and informed comments.
- That no turkeys in any way suffered in order for us to have a wonderful thanksgiving. Yup, we do it all-vegetarian. Happy to share our menu if anyone’s interested.
- That we can put aside our differences for one day and share what we are thankful for.
Okay, that’s enough politeness.

You hippie tree-huggers make me want to puke. Too many of you here in the Bay Area. Too much political correctness.
I’m thankful for
my family
22 pound turkey and all the fixings
Meat
Meat
More greasy meat
No organic, free-range, vegetarian wanna-be birds
I’m looking for a $300,000 job. Anyone has any leads?

Alex, those are reserved for the PC hippies.

“And we all know right after 1933 — Happy Days Were Here Again!!”
LOL. Yep! I think we’re about ..Say…75 years from another exponential run-up in property values.

CNBC says these are the best 5 days since 1933!
And after 1933 it only took nine more years and a global war to pull the US economy out of the sewer.
November 29th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Well, let’s get to it, man! We Americans are doing everything we can to ensure the global war.

Little late here but oh well.
1:I’m thankful that I have a Wife who loves me,and I her, who puts up with all my crap.
2: That we’re close to our families
3: That we have no debt or financial bugaboos to drag is down
4: That we both have good jobs we enjoy
5: The continued and protracted housing bust which allows us to save more and more and buy cheaper later.
Oh- and we did the whole un-healthy thanksgiving thing. Real Turkey with cranberries, stuffing, green bean casserole, Sweet potatoes, and lots of other butter saturated stuff with egg nog to wash it all down with. ummmmmm-boy!
