Desirable location in Fremont close to BART. Backyard w/ deck, quiet neighborhood, wide driveway, renovated Kitchen w/ Stainless Steell appliances. Must see to appreciate!THIS IS NOT A SHORT SALE OR REO. .. Original owner.

Burbed reader CB thought this was an important find. Here’s what CB had to say:

It’s listed at 140K above it’s zestimate and and you’ll have to pay about 100 more per sq ft for the 94536 to live in this one.   But who knows.  The house is fit for the Mona Lisa, it may be fit for someone as special as me!

The cat guarding the “original owner’s” valued Betty Boop collection is also a nice touch.  50x scale posters of drinks is always a plus. This listing makes a good argument for keeping the camera on the curb.

Indeed, the ZEstimate is just $524,500. But as we know, ZEstimates tend to undervalue Bay Area (even non-RBA) properties because they don’t have a model to account for specialness.

That said, let’s take a look at the interior!

Yep. That’s the Mona Lisa alright. And check out the Roman-esque bust! And the Christmas tree! Wow. What a cornucopia of Classic Art. Stunning!

And to complete the museum, lots of modern art.

Frankly, if they’re not charging admission to go see this house, they are truly missing out!

  1. Hellboy Says:

Wowser! If I ever saw a house that was in need of “staging” it would be this one…

  2. nomadic Says:

What do you mean Hellboy? This place is perfectly staged for a horror movie.

  3. madhaus Says:

Horror movie? Oh, nomadic, if there were ever a movie made here, it ought to be camp. Something along the line of Scary Movie, maybe. Or perhaps A Horror Film (nsfw).

I’m delighted to find this house has a wide driveway. It no doubt needed it to bring in those Stainless Steell appliances.

Hmmm. Assessed value is $212K. Could that really be the original owner when the place was built in 1984? That seems rather high for a Fremont tract house; remember there was a bubble that popped in 1989-90.

I like how the artistic red highlights from the den pop up again in the kitchen, along with that Stainless Steell stove and the mandatory granite countertop. Too bad they don’t show the floor, we could get a hat trick with Pergo.

  4. UnrealAlex Says:

You guys have not heart, some poor Armenian worked their guts out for that kitsch, for all you know those same photos have been sent back to the old country to show the villagers back home how they’ve “arrived”.

    Oh, and Fremont Is Death.

  5. Real Alex Says:

This reminded me my old grandma’s house back Russia which was full of artifacts like these. It even had Mona Lisa too. It was painted by local artist, had obvious errors and just looked funny because of disproportional Lisa’s face. By some reason my grandma loved the picture.

  6. madhaus Says:

If Real Alex and UnrealAlex have a disagreement on burbed, what would happen? Is this like having a humidifier and a dehumidifier fighting it out? Would the winner force the loser to add or delete the space in the UID? Does the loser have to move to Armenia or Russia? I hope he sends us a real estate conditions report when he gets there.

  7. anon Says:

MAdhaus, I think that they may annihilate each other, like matter and anti-matter. That would be a problem. Alex and Alex, the future of burbed lies in your hands. Act wisely.

With respect to this house, I’ve got but one word: Classy.

  8. CB Says:

I think the Realtor(TM) is being quite the humanitarian by warning prospective buyers with those pictures. Imagine not knowing about that living room before entering the house.

Though not RBA by any standard, I like the Niles area of Fremont because it is everything south SJ, Milpitas, etc is not. But this tract is very Milpitas-like.

    The Sale Not Taken

Two sales offered in a falling clime
And sorry I could not accept both
Not be a bagholder, market timed
And looked at one as far as I could
    To where it snarled in contingencies;
Then took the other, was just as well
    And having impressive agencies
Because it was classy, wow, Alain Pinel!
Though as for that, the carryback
Loan made them really about the same,
And both those offers equally lay
    Open, unsigned, not FedExed back.
Oh, I kept the first as a fallback piece!
Yet knowing of pending with release,
I doubted if I would reread the stack.
I shall be telling this with a shriek
Sometime when the market’s up a streak:
Two sales offered and I blundered
I took the one less encumbered
And that couple lost their jobs the next week.

excellent poem – bleak outlook. Nice! :-)

“THIS IS NOT A SHORT SALE OR REO”

    Yet.

  12. Guest Says:

I’ve read from others about the disadvantages of condos. Would you recommend one in smaller buildings, maybe 2 to 4 units? I imagine the HOA won’t be likely to be all-powerful since it’s just you and a couple of neighbors. And if there’re assessments it would more likely be reasonable because of same. I lean towards condos because it’ll only be for me, an SFR would be too much space and money. There’re lots of small numbered condo buildings in SF so it seems many are doing that. What are your opinions?

  13. zanon Says:

Guest: Go for it. Someone, anyone, just buy something already.

ps. you only need 1 neighbor to make your life a living hell.

pps. whatever you do, don’t rent. that’s just throwing money away.

  14. nomadic Says:

guest, out of fairness, I feel it’s my duty to point out that zanon is being sarcastic.

  15. anon Says:

Except the part: “ps. you only need 1 neighbor to make your life a living hell.”

    I’d say that’s spot on.

  16. anon Says:

“Guest: Go for it. Someone, anyone, just buy something already.”

Seriously. I’m sure people are jumping at the chance to drop 150k as a downpayment and then paying $3500/month for the next 30 years to live in 1600sqft. I know I am.

  17. Real Estater Says:

    anon says,
    >>Seriously. I’m sure people are jumping at the chance to drop 150k as a downpayment and then paying $3500/month for the next 30 years to live in 1600sqft.

The buyer of this home is willing, and he doesn’t mind spending a million dollars to live on a high traffic street.

  18. anon Says:

Again, excreter, you fail to distinguish between ‘spending’ and signing up to pay.

Unless that was a cash purchase, he is not spending a million dollars.

  19. zanon Says:

RE: Ouch! did you see the $/sq ft graph on that redfin page? it’s halved over the last 2 years! that just means he’s getting a bargain, right RE?

  20. Real Estater Says:

    Zanon says,
    >>RE: Ouch! did you see the $/sq ft graph on that redfin page? it’s halved over the last 2 years!

You know why, Mr. amateur? Zip 94303 is shared between Palo Alto and East Palo Alto. We all know what happened to property prices in East Palo Alto.

  21. Herve Says:

See the big screen TV on the picture with the cat? Red sofa, 4” martini on the wall… This homeowner sure knows how to entertain! I bet there are some exotic plants in the backyard. Watch out raccoons!

  22. zanon Says:

    Thank you, RE.

We should start a petition to separate the two zips.

  23. nomadic Says:

Again, excreter, you fail to distinguish between ’spending’ and signing up to pay.

That’s right, anon. Over 30 years the homeowner will have paid nearly $2 million.

  24. anotherguest Says:

dear Guest – we’ve lived in condos and have been happy; once in Chicago for four years and now here for nearly 13 years. however, that probably means that we’ve been the ones making others’ lives hell:)
I think two things are important: a decent number of units (our current place has 82) to spread costs out, but not so many that it becomes an unmanageable mass. and even more importantly, buy the cheapest *decent* place at the bottom of the market! that way if you become unhappy there you won’t feel trapped. so don’t buy for another year or two.
I wouldn’t go for a 4 unit place; one psycho can ruin everything. you need enough normal people to neutralize them.
get to know as many people as you can on a friendly basis, but don’t serve on the board!!! (no good deed goes unpunished) that has worked for us.
    best wishes, another guest

  25. anon Says:

“That’s right, anon. Over 30 years the homeowner will have paid nearly $2 million.”

    Good point.

Anyone want to sign up to be a debt slave in a deflationary environment?

    I guess RE does.

  26. UnrealAlex Says:

Madhaus – the funny thing is, my real name is Alex, and I suspect there are at least one more Alex on here, “RealAlex”, and I think there’s another one?

I’m just not sophisticated enough to join in the more technical discussions here, but I can sure be a pop off. And, I’ve spent a few years in the BA and know a lot of the neighborhoods talked about. So, I make my one pop off comment a day, maybe at times two.

are we reading the same blog? ;)

  28. nomadic Says:

Unreal Alex, are you British by any chance? Just wondering based on the “pop off” comment. :-)

  29. UnrealAlex Says:

Nope not a Brit, just another subject of the Evil Empire here.

And I cite Bill Mauldin, in his autobiography “The Brass Ring” written in the 1950s, using the term “pop off” to describe his own journalistic style. Oops that’s right, being American yourself you’ll have no idea who this Pulitzer prize winner that is, guess you’ll just have to look him up. Say hi to Willie and Joe for me.

  31. anon Says:

Yes. What would an american care or know about an old dude who wrote an autobiography in the 50s? This is amerika. We only care about sub zero refrigerators, zip code prestige and trophy wives.

  32. nomadic Says:

Thanks, anon, couldn’t have said it better myself. ;-)
Guess I’m not the renaissance man I thought I was…

Then again, having lived in the UK “pop off” had more immediate connotations for me. Certainly more meaning than some dead dude, no matter how impressive his resume.

  33. Guest Says:

    Thanks anotherguest.
