Thanks, anon, couldn't have said it better myself. ;-)
Guess I'm not the renaissance man I thought I was...

Then again, having lived in the UK "pop off" had more immediate connotations for me. Certainly more meaning than some dead dude, no matter how impressive his resume.

Nope not a Brit, just another subject of the Evil Empire here.

And I cite Bill Mauldin, in his autobiography "The Brass Ring" written in the 1950s, using the term "pop off" to describe his own journalistic style. Oops that's right, being American yourself you'll have no idea who this Pulitzer prize winner is, guess you'll just have to look him up. Say hi to Willie and Joe for me.

Unreal Alex, are you British by any chance? Just wondering based on the "pop off" comment. :-)

Madhaus - the funny thing is, my real name is Alex, and I suspect there are at least one more Alex on here, "RealAlex", and I think there's another one?

I'm just not sophisticated enough to join in the more technical discussions here, but I can sure be a pop off. And, I've spent a few years in the BA and know a lot of the neighborhoods talked about. So, I make my one pop off comment a day, maybe at times two.

"That’s right, anon. Over 30 years the homeowner will have paid nearly $2 million."

Good point.

Anyone want to sign up to be a debt slave in a deflationary environment?

I guess RE does.
