Well kept home, perfect for the first time home buyer or investor.

The lack of affordable housing in Sunnyvale is now solved. And, this is a well kept home! Let’s take a look inside!

761a

I love the combination of granite countertops, wood panel walls, bright brick fireplaces, and what looks like a RV-turned-into a sunroom.

What? That’s not well kept you sniff? Well… this is Bay Area Well Kept (BAWK). Learn to enjoy it.

At just $400k anyone can easily snap this house up.

And guess what! Back in 2007 this house sold for $665k! So whomever buys it now earns $266k in instant equity!

If this isn’t a winner, I don’t know what is. Take that Houston!

As I’ve said before or something similar to it, one man’s hideous and tacky double-wide mobile home is another man’s retro-vintage mid-century modern, Googie, Atomic Ranch, Eichler-esque, modernist, charming, nostalgic, sentimental, Cliff May inspired, Henry Doelger approved, rambling rancher.

That brick looks like it was printed on cardboard. Reminds me of a 50’s-vintage Christmas decoration.

    May 01, 2007 Sold $665,000

There was a lot of icing on that cake!

I had to go through the archives and see if this had been featured on Burbed before. Amazingly, $665K for this hideous little boxlet was not that crazy compared to the other offerings on the market at the time.

I like the solitary chair off in the corner. That’s where you can sit and stare at the wall listening to your house rot around you while your wallet quietly weeps.

  6. Joe Says:

It’s not hard to believe this place would catch $665k during the last thoes of the bubble when people making $60k could get no down option arm loans of $700k.

    POS is still overpriced IMO.

I like that new acronym BAWK — Bay Area Well Kept

    Nice touch, burbed.

    Is this crack house week?

    Nomadic,

    I didn’t know it!

It’s freaky that this house sold for $665k in 2007. Something similar in Cambrian would have been about the same. Nicer nhood (Sunnyvale has very nice parts but this is not it) comparable or possibly better schools (this is Fremont high). Svale is better commute to many places but that’s about it.

I like how there are three different styles of cabinetry in the kitchen–but a nice shiny new GRANITE COUNTERTOP, just like they said to do on HGTV!

Ten bucks says that giant gaudy throw-rug is covering up five years of dog-vomit stains.

Fireplace: That reminds me of a place I rented a few years ago which had a “bar counter” built into a spare bedroom. The bar counter was trimmed with “rough-cut wooden beams” that turned out to be molded and painted Styrofoam!

  14. sfbubblebuyer Says:

Any time I walk into a house and see the granite counter top slapped on 1950’s whitewashed cabinets, I know the house is a giant steaming turd that they frantically polished.

As DDuck noted, they couldn’t even be bothered to put the same hardware on the cabinets to try and make it look like an actual remodel.

  15. BobbyS Says:

Maybe the current owners conspired with friends or family members and bought the place for the inflated price of 665k in 2007 in hopes of creating a false impression of its value so that they could sell it at an even higher price in a couple years. But they probably did not forsee the bubble popping and are now scrambling.

I bet those cabinets are made of cheap particleboard. Even those white drawer/cabinet handles are made of plastics.
When previous seller sold it on May 2007, I am sure he didn’t have to do anything on his 20/30 year old cabinets and countertop – “take it for $665K or get lost”.

Reminds me of an open house I went to in Spring 2008: 1960s cabinets painted white, new granite slab countertops and a mysterious hole in the master bathroom ceiling where maybe an exhaust fan had been ripped out. Asking price? $1.4M

Oh, and it had a funky old-people smell.

  18. R Says:

    Did it sell?

  19. anon Says:

For 20% higher than listing, I’m sure.

There’s no end to what people will pay for the privilege of indentured servitude homedebtorship!

  20. nomadic Says:

    R asked, “did it sell?”

LOL – no. I did see it re-listed last fall for maybe $150k less but even then I don’t think it sold. BTW, the assessed value of the place is just over $100k with only one refi for $645k.

  21. sfbubblebuyer Says:

I love seeing 1 mill houses that have tax assessments of 100k. It makes me feel so good to know all the parasites in California are feasting happily on the blood of the younger generations.

  22. zanon Says:

sfbubblebuyer: Not true. It’s what creates my cheap cheap rent. Old owners, young renters. All good.

  23. anon Says:

Just make sure you’re not one of the suckers who think that buying a home is a good idea.

Enjoy the benefits of home non-ownership!

    There are so many.

  24. zanon Says:

    you are 100% correct anon
