Nice house, just 10X as expensive as it should be.

Thanks for the response to my posting yesterday, guys. Herve, the counter tops are granite slab. And, the upgrades were done with permits and through contractors. I think the total cost of the upgrades is around $50k. I’ve heard that a new kitchen costs roughly 35k.
I guess what I’d like to find out is the historical median prices in the Monterey area. Then I can determine what the price should be in relation to the historical mean.

I was actually wondering about what grade the granite was. Although there is no universal/official grading system (Father bob can correct me if I’m wrong), different granites have different prices. This is similar to foie gras in a way. Grade A, also known as the 94301 of foie gras, is typically the highest in fat and is well suited for low-temperature preparations. Grade B (not as fat) is ok for high temperature preparations since it won’t miserably melt when seared. Grade C is usually for sauces. Now, you obviously would not want to use foie gras for a counter top: foie gras needs to be refrigerated or frozen. But I digress.

Regarding the Tenafly smackdown, check this out from Mr Roadshow in the Mercury News.
“A report out today by a Washington-based transportation think tank called TRIP says California has the second-highest share of roads in poor condition in the nation — 35 percent. Only New Jersey has worse roads.”

CA’s new state slogan: Thank God for New Jersey.

Shameless plug:
http://santaclaraca.gov/index.aspx?page=500
Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) presented a plaque to the City of Santa Clara for being recognized as the Best All-Around Pavement Management Program. Out of all the participating agencies within the 9 Bay Area counties, the City of Santa Clara earned a multi-year average PCI of 84, indicating “very good” roads by the MTC – far above the all agency average score of 64.

#8 – I hear stories like that often but I find it so hard to believe. The roads in Michigan are 10x worse than 90% of the ones in CA. Once when I was visiting there and called home, my friend thought I was on a train. I was actually just driving on a slightly worse than average road in Michigan with patches on it about every 50′ or so. The thumping sounded like a train.
