Biggest, Weirdest Reported Sale – Maybe Ever – Alameda County
I wanted to close out the week with one more property that could have made Zillow’s expensive home sales list (remember, not one RBA property on the list, the nerve!) But there weren’t any over $10 million properties in Marin, and when I moved over to Alameda County… lookie here what I found.
1812 Bali Ter (Unable to map), San Leandro, CA 94578
Sold on 01/08/2011: $41,500,000

BEDS: 5
BATHS: 2.5
SQ. FT.: 2,192
$/SQ. FT.: $18,932
LOT SIZE: 2,543 Sq. Ft.
TYPE: Detached
STYLE: Contemporary
STORIES: 2
YEAR BUILT: 2009
COMMUNITY: San Leandro
COUNTY: Alameda
MLS#: 40492923
SOURCE: EBRD
STATUS: SoldNew Construction. .. Gated Community. No HOA. Many upgrades included. Great floor plan. Large kitchen island & pantry and gas stove. Huge master suite with jet tub, etc. Has 3-fireplaces. Seller says must sell bring offer!.
Guess this was the seller’s lucky day, huh? Or maybe someone seriously fat-fingered that update? From looking at that rather pedestrian kitchen (for $41 million, I want something that doesn’t scream 2005 at me), I suspect someone made a big mistake. Let’s hope it wasn’t the FB fulfilled buyer. So, have a look at the asking price.

Whoa! I’ve heard overbidding is everywhere, but… let’s see what the lucky homedebtor got for (cough) $41 million. Fortunately, this site and several others had lots of pictures and information and even managed to come up with a map. There were 10 homes in this new gated community. It must be really posh!

That’s some serious elbow room. At least there should be some open space nearby, right?

Plenty of room across Liberty Street! Awesome! Now, gated community, right? Let’s get a good gander at the gate!

While a few security guards at an entry booth would be a touch more apropos, the riffraff won’t be crashing the cotillion! In fact, don’t worry about the wrong element showing up uninvited to social events, because absolutely nobody will know where this house really is. I’ll prove it. Here’s where another Realtard site thinks it’s located:

Who wouldn’t pay a hundred times the asking price for an undisclosed location and guaranteed privacy? Not convinced? Here’s where Zillow thinks it is:

And remember, Redfin didn’t even try to find the house.
Okay, I know you’re all laughing at this new construction in San Leandro (has Burbed ever been to San Leandro before? Yes!) but it’s got 10 rooms! The house yesterday had 14 (and zero bedrooms). So there’s no reason why this house can’t sell for an eight digit price, too. Plus you will avoid all that horrible traffic in The City.
Update 1/11/11: Well, dammit, Redfin now (as of 4 pm) says the house sold for $415,000. I was so looking forward to watching this FB open the property tax bill, too.

A home like this selling for over $400k just proves we still have a long way to go before we hit bottom.
Looks like I won’t be buying again this year. I am still…waiting for the fall.

Anyone else think this is hilariously representative of the Bay Area bubble? Asked: $427,000. Got: $41,500,000 (albeit mistake). Corrected: $415,000. Future Prospect: continue to fall.

Is this typical of a bubble? From $400k to $41,000k and back again.

MLS listing this days is crap. Looks like RE companies don’t bother much to properly update and remove them. One of properties we found recently was still listed for sale, though it was supposed to be removed in February! Funny part that current owner did not know how to do that and he could not find the agent to help him. Agent literally disappeared.

I’m too jaded by the RBA to work up a reaction to the $415k price tag for decent-sized new construction. The proximity to the freeway (if that’s where it really is) blows though.

Low then HIGH then low …… someone caught the falling knife. Nothing to see here… move along …. move along ….
BTW where’s Excretor been?
Real Alex – I dare you to a Realness duel, come on down here (because I can’t come up there, the bus is a rich man’s ride) garlic cloves and Wrist Rockets at 20 paces.

#7, I bet you could sell tickets for that one. Sounds like a blast. Bonus if you get RE to attend. I think he disappeared, just like his posts were disappearing.
January 14th, 2011 at 4:44 pm
+1 but that but heck, +1 for everything! Unless you’re excretor.
this is like the early days of Ebay feedback! You could give anyone anything for any reason. Wait a minute.. ….
January 14th, 2011 at 9:45 pm
That kitchen looks cold.
January 14th, 2011 at 11:50 pm
Excretor!
I never personally wanted your posts to disappear, I just like having you back because we have this nice new shiny awards system, see? And I’m tired of always checking the green one……

To girly Alex,
Unfortunately I don’t have as much free time as you guys since I have family, rental properties and a demanding job.
January 15th, 2011 at 9:04 am
Good morning everyone.
Being open to feedbacks, I’d like to hear from someone who voted negative on #10 consisting of 4 words. What’s the reason for that?
January 15th, 2011 at 9:25 am
Lucky Number 13-
Have you seen the one word posts that get heavy negatives on other forums? “First” or something similar. Yes, that’s right, it’s not the quantity of words, but the quality of the post.
I have not voted one way or the other, but I do wonder what makes that kitchen look cold to you. Maybe you could explain what makes a kitchen look cold.
January 15th, 2011 at 11:35 am
#12- You state you don’t have as much free time now that you have rental properties. I thought all you did was show off the checks. How much time does that take?
January 15th, 2011 at 11:37 am
#13, you were directly asked if you had downrated posts and you refused to answer. Why would you expect anyone here to give you more than you gave us?
Welcome to “Reap the Whirlwind.”
January 15th, 2011 at 12:42 pm
I have to agree that it’s silly to downrate #10 just because of who wrote it. Maybe it doesn’t add much to the discussion, but it’s not offensive like #12.
January 15th, 2011 at 1:52 pm
I gave #10 a plus because it was inoffensive, and from RE, and that is an improvement.
However, since it was obviously RE *fishing* for a plus (he was clearly experimenting to see if someone would neg him for an inoffensive comment), I could see him getting a negative for it. Since he was being manipulative. And being manipulative is his most obnoxious quality, at least that I’ve noticed.
January 15th, 2011 at 3:42 pm
#18, I find it difficult to decide which quality should win the trophy. After all, there are so many to choose from!
January 15th, 2011 at 3:48 pm
That’s why I let it net out to zero.
January 15th, 2011 at 9:47 pm
I get it. If RE says anything positive, neutral, or anything at all, he gets dinged for being manipulative.
January 15th, 2011 at 10:55 pm
#21- Don’t try and be a SEO type. Why not simply provide good content?
January 16th, 2011 at 10:16 am
What’s another zero, right? Just look at our government’s budget deficit.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:36 pm
Wow, voting on this site is getting pretty active.
Oops, another neutral posting. Will probably get slammed by Tuno.
January 16th, 2011 at 10:50 pm
Gosh, I can’t *imagine* who is voting down so many of the regulars’ posts over the long holiday weekend. But once the neggie-naffer goes back to work, that will stop, because there’s a limit to how many Star Bucks IP addresses one can hit from cubeland.
In other news, I just read a bankruptcy court ruling in NJ that pretty much told the bank they could $%^& off with their foreclosure attempt, since the original bank didn’t bother sending the note to the one making the security piles. Wonder how many more of those we’re going to see in view of that Massachusetts case.
January 17th, 2011 at 2:17 am
Sure, you can try to blame me for all the evils of the world, even though by your own admission it’s not easy for the same person to vote so many times. Besides, the fact of the matter is that I’ve been so busy with work, family, and property management that I haven’t been to Star Bucks for over a week.
