All the Charm of Milpitas, at a Mountain View Price!

Yesterday’s featured property in Milpitas was well-received, so let’s return to the City of a Thousand Aromas with this great find from Burbed reader nomadic!

PRICE REDUCED!! NICE HOME IN A GREAT AREA OF MILPITAS. 4BEDS/3BATHS, 3 CAR GARAGE. BEAUTIFUL BACKYARD AND NEW LANSCAPE OF FRONT HOUSE. NEW INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR PAINT. SUNROOM BUILT WITH PERMIT. TOTAL SQUARE FEET OF THE HOUSE: 3000sf.

Here’s what nomadic thought of this NICE HOME:

The neighborhood across the freeway from today’s featured house is filled with snout houses with HUGE noses.  Check out this hideous example.  Fitting street name too: as the Redfin agent helpfully points out, it’s next to the sound wall for the freeway.

imageimage

But wait!  That’s not ALL you get!  How about this poorly lit living/dining room? The same effect in the bedroom?

imageimage

The late 80s kitchen décor?  The two-tone ceiling in the bedroom?

imageimage

The indescribable feeling you’re in a shotgun shack in a 2,690 square foot house?  The mismatched marble-like surfaces in the bathroom?

imageimage

Good thing they included those gorgeous pictures of the back yard.  You’re really going to enjoy that holiday from the humdrum by relaxing out here instead of staying indoors.

Ahhhh!

Now, you could be dismayed that this the first photo in this listing is of the backyard. Or that the photos are tiny. Or that there’s no detailed description extolling the virtues of this house.

But let’s face it – this is house is a mere $649k! What do you expect? A full service, high quality listing?

Look, if all you can afford is $649k, that means you’re probably making less than $100k. Should you really be living in the Bay Area if you make less than $100k? Probably not.

So yeah. Take it if you want it. Leave it if you don’t. We probably don’t want your kind here anyway.

THREE YEARS OLD AND NEVER BEEN LIVED IN!

A little while ago we had this century-old listing in Willow Glen, where someone had bought the property and subdivided the lot, then built three houses all in a row behind the original one.  Thanks to Burbed reader nomadic, who found this listing in comments, we bring you one of those “newer” homes.

Yes, this is the same Realtard as the old house, and she’s SHOUTING AT YOU just as LOUDLY.  Hmmm.  At first I wondered if she was behind the development in the first place, but the 2008 attempts at sale, as well as the April sales used a different broker.  The limited liability corporation behind this development was called Willowshire LLC, with a mailing address in Saratoga. The contractor was Vern Easthouse, of Los Gatos, and the construction was approved by the San Jose Planning Department back in 2005.  The three new houses were begun in May 2007 and finished in August, 2008.

imageMeanwhile, soon after they were finished, the ownership was transferred from Willowshire to United Security Bank of Fresno, by way of some capital service, not the one which held the construction loan.  Whoops!  I found a Notice of Default dated June, 2008, so the financial problems hit before the homes were finished.  There were a couple of mechanic’s liens filed against them too.

Meanwhile, there’s another long list of asking prices being changed, delistings, relistings, etc. etc.  Here’s what Zillow had on this place:

image

There’s similar roller-coaster action with the original old house as well.

A Cisco manager married to a financial consultant bought one of the three new houses in 2009.  A Yahoo executive married to an Internet startup CEO bought another one of the new houses in 2010 and recently signed a consent decree for this property, which suggests he had some kind of lawsuit going against the development.  The original house in front and the remaining new one was bought from United Security Bank by a Palo Alto developer this April for $570K… but it had been sitting empty for 3 years.  New light bulbs and Drano now installed, it’s your turn to move in!

image

Best of all, when you want to do that Pride of Ownership/Water Your Own Lawn thing… it won’t take a lot of your time.  Check out that lot: 2613 square feet.  Your gardener will charge you more to drive to your house than to rake the leaves!

Another Foreigners with Suitcases Full of Cash Story!

Thanks to Burbed reader Real Estater for bringing this up in comments yesterday.

The Chinese Go on a Global Homebuying Spree

businessweek

Kelvin Wong, Nichola Saminather and Hui-yong Yu, On Friday June 24, 2011, 8:08 am EDT

On a sunny Saturday in early June, Larry Zhou strolled the floor of a property exhibition in Hong Kong, wondering whether it was time to buy another home — not in the city, where residential prices have soared 50 percent in the past two years, but maybe in Thailand or Malaysia. "My wife and I have been thinking about investing outside of the country since we already own an apartment in Shanghai," says Zhou, a 38-year-old civil engineer, who was visiting the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre before wrapping up a business trip and returning home. "I’ve known people in Shanghai who like to bring their money and invest in Hong Kong properties, but I think Hong Kong is way too expensive."

The two-day event that lured Zhou and 3,000 others is one way that China’s expanding wealthy and middle classes are finding investment properties and second homes around the world. They are grabbing everything from $68,000 foreclosed condominiums in Florida to $2 million beachfront villas in Vietnam. "Some of them will buy homes considering better education opportunities for their kids, while others look for immigration options," says Mo Tianquan, founder and chairman of Beijing-based SouFun Holdings (NYSE:SFUNNews), which runs China’s biggest real estate website and organizes buying excursions abroad.

Vietnam beachfront villas?  Don’t be silly.  Every single one of them wants to buy a house in… Vancouver?  The smart ones, though, are buying in Silicon Valley, especially places smart enough to work the magic word “Cupertino” into the listing somehow.

In the U.S., Chinese buyers have helped support home sales and prices in Silicon Valley and Hawaii, while they are an increasing presence in Las Vegas and New York, according to local brokers. […]

Las Vegas?  What the heck are they thinking?  There’s no Apple Campus in Las Vegas!

This is an Open Thread.  Let us know what Open Houses you’ve seen full of foreign buyers.  Or any buyers.

The Washer Dryer and Refrig stay

Here’s a find from Burbed reader z2amiller, no doubt one of the many also-rans during the long road to homeloanership.  You all remember z2amiller, don’t you?  First burbed reader who admitted, and thus earned this badge:

Great starter home in Mountain View w/ 4 bdrm. & 2 baths. Freshly painted interior & exterior. New carpets and linoleum. New stove w/ self cleaning oven, fan-hood and dishwasher. The Washer Dryer & Refrig stay. If you love gardening/fruit trees/flowers/herb garden/and vegtable garden you will love this 7700sf lot. Room for boat. Front yard mostly roses on drip system. No Gar. door closed/up-1-car

imageHere’s what z2amiller had to say about this property:

9 pictures and not a single one of the indoors? 4 bedrooms in 1075 sqft? I guess you better _really_ love gardening and spending time outside in your huge 7700 sqft lot!

They must have changed the pictures, only four of them are outdoors now!  And note how this one managed to include the TP on the roll, even!

Wow, I’m getting trippy watching all those water features line up, all those metal bars line up, it even repeats in the mirror… and the metal soap dish reinforces the metal TP holder.  Now that’s art.  Whatever money they spent on HDR photography was money well spent.  I want to buy this place and set up an easel and canvas and see if I can get some water lily action going.  Or at least water closet.

This amazing custom 3-year old Spanish style downtown condo unit has it all. Just blocks from desirable Castro St. 2 blocks from Mountain View farmers market, and walking distance to Cal-Train. – Marble kitchen and master bath – Grand master suite w/ walk-in closet – Marble bathroom w/ separate tub & shower – 2 parking spaces – Garage storage space – Stainless steel appliances

imageHere’s what Alex had to say about this listing:

At these prices, don’t expect to find any riff-raffs as neighbors. Nothing says exclusivity more than $600 in HOA. Take your children for a stroll down Castro and enjoy the artistic broken or papered windows. Or enjoy a romantic evening home with your partner, taking advantage of the constant vibrations from passing CalTrain. Who needs Santa Row when you have desirable Castro St? Move over, Palo Alto.  Make room for the new RBA.

And so convenient to City parking lots, which are always in use!  Think of all the new acquaintances you could meet there.

Price reduced for quick sale!! Please take a look again. Cozy Cabin in the hill, adjacent to the Memorial State Park, within walking distant to the local stores in Lomar Mar, and short drive to downtown Pescadero and the Ocean. Home is dated which can be updated and upgraded to your desire. Property is perfect for a weekend getaway cabin or for rental purposes.

I like how one of the benefits of the cheapest house in San Mateo is that it is dated – which means you can updated and upgraded. Just like software and firmware! Oh? It’s not just like software and firmware? Oh.

Surprisingly this is actually sort of walking distance to businesses, despite the fact that it looks like a very large tree house.

Any one have an a read on what vacation rentals look like this area? Can you actually turn a profit? Entrepreneurial minds want to know!
