imageHere’s why Ashley sent in this house:

Long time reader and first time contributor. I found this house in Los Altos Hills in the coveted PA school district (Nixon, Terman, Gunn schools) . Priced at $2.5 Mil, it boasts “a media buff’s paradise, including a Home Theatre “2nd only to Spielberg’s””. Is there any way we can check what Spielberg has in his many homes to ensure that we are not being fooled by this realtor??? Why could they not have said that the house came wired with a high end media system and left it at that?

imageI, for one, would have been impressed if they compared the media room to what George Lucas has.  This isn’t Beverly Hills.

Although between the media room and that vanity in the bathroom  maybe whoever lived here thought it was.  But if that were the case, why are there five pictures of the deck and none of the swimming pool?

What do you mean, this house is asking $2.5M and doesn’t have a pool?

imageNext you’re going to tell me it sold 23 years ago for $985K, which would knock this place right out of the Real Bay Area on valuation alone.

Meanwhile, have I missed some new kitchen design trend? 1958 colors with 42 inch wide white appliances?  But some of the painting effects in other photos looks like they did the sponge treatment, which is so 2001.

Here’s another number: 102 days on the market.  So the agent did tell the truth about one thing:

“,generous turnabout.”

The home theater room looks like the set of a 70’s porno… just saying.

  2. AstroWallaby Says:

#1: I’m not sure about porno, but that room definitely has a 70’s-future vibe. It looks like a great place to settle down in front of the Multivision to watch Jonathan E and Houston take on Tokyo with no penalties and limited substitutions.

  3. Petsmart groomer Says:

Maintenance cost will go through the roof with so many light bulbs in the bathroom.

  4. nomadic Says:

That’s okay, #3, because the first thing the new owners should do is gut that ugly room.

  5. SEA Says:

“Home was updated 6 years ago * Needs updating so great chance for “sweat equity” * 2 bedrooms newly painted and carpeted * living room also newly carpeted. Quiet neighborhood and close to schools and jobs in North Mountain View. All windows double pane. NOTE: Please make sure all doors are closed on leaving.”

    Redfin agent comment:

“Floors sloping in almost every room. Appears to have water damage and dryrot in some bedrooms and bathrooms.”

My question: WTF did they do 6 years ago?

This place makes my eyes hurt.

That’s a good Burbed candidate, SEA. Why the hell didn’t you send it in? It’s got nothing to do with today’s house except the area code.

Why did they take five pictures of the deck, anyway? Showing off their new HDR process?

  10. PKamp3 Says:

#9 5 pictures of the deck and 0 pictures of the home theater screen. You need to tour to verify!

  11. ashley Says:

I keep an eye on this neighborhood (LAH/PA schools) and “browse” new open houses – easy and free weekend entertainment for my little son and myself.
Compared to what they are asking for this house, the dated media system might cost just peanuts. That is why I was amazed that they made it seem like such a big deal in the listing description. I love to “hangout” on burbed. I will definitely be back with more interesting listings that I might come across on my weekend jaunts.

  12. Divasm Says:

I agree, for the big deal the listing makes of the home theatre, the photo is completely underwhelming. And of course, every professional editing suite I’ve worked in has BLACK leather couches, it seems to be an industry requirement, I’m sure Steven has black leather in HIS home theatre. 😛

But I also really like this phrase: “Custom REMODELED – eclectic blend of hi-tech & Euro,” which sounds like an advertisement for a lame dance club or something.

  13. SEA Says:

I’ll be sure to post in an OT post next time.

  14. Melissa @ Sell house quick Says:

The price is way too high; properties of similar size are listed on zillow.com for $487/sq.ft. By increasing the asking price, they are reducing the chance of selling the house. IMO.
