This year in Burbed–2011 [A serious post]

2011 was a year of transitions. Some things ended too soon (Steve Jobs), some things finally concluded (the Iraq War). For me personally, 2011 was also a year of transitions – second order impacts of the challenges of 2010.

I would like to thank the entire Burbed community for continuing to make this such an interesting, funny, educational place to be. I would like to thank all the commenters – quality, trolls – all alike (except spammers – thanks but no thanks.) I would like to thank the sponsors of Burbed for helping keep the site running. I would like to thank all those who sent in their “finds” – there were some awesome finds this year.

I would especially like to thank Madhaus for keeping this site going. To be frank, without Madhaus there wouldn’t have been a Burbed in 2011. Madhaus’ perseverance in delivering great posts on the site has amazed me, as is her persistence in getting me motivated to do some of the behind the scenes chores that I so suck at. (Like site uptime…)

It goes without saying that 2012 will be another interesting year for all. My involvement on Burbed will likely continue at its current level due to ongoing personal challenges. I look forward to continuing to see the great “finds” that you folks keep sending in.

I wish you all a Happy New Year.

Thank you for your support.

Thanks to Madhaus, for being there for me to email my various finds to. Another year has gone by, and we are still living in the hovel looking for a home. Another offer beaten by 6 other offers, another weekend of open houses… It gets old. Being able to share all of my weird finds, that when I first started my real estate journey 2 years ago, would have been unbelievable, has saved me therapy money. Burbed makes me laugh, and I appreciate your posts and all the funny finds and comments.

    Happy New Year!

Thanks to our wonderful guest contributors for keeping Burbed the best, or at least the most realistic real estate site on teh interwebz!

  4. PKamp3 Says:

Burbed – I’ve read quite a few of your posts (I’ve only been lurking/commenting since ~ March) and you definitely set a high bar for sarcasm, snarkiness, and disguised RBA super-insight… hope everything works out for the best.

I can’t think of a better site for figuring out what’s truly going on in the RBA, between the posts and the comments. Searching on zip codes was a great resource when I bought my home.

    Happy New Year!

  5. * Says:

madhaus has shown her value and certainly deserves a 10% raise this year (from her salary of $0.00/year).

i bet she will earn an even bigger 15% raise in 2012!

  6. SEA Says:

10% & 15% = 26.5%, which should be considered total normal for RBA material.

Thanks to both burbed and madhaus, plus the others that help out.

  7. nomadic Says:

    Happy New Year everyone!

It’s nice to see burbed is still kickin’ around, and we do appreciate madhaus keeping the site going so we have someplace to direct our snark. Except for those epic (and not in a good way) zip code rankings. 😉

  8. Petsmart groomer Says:

    > madhaus has shown her value and certainly deserves a 10% raise this year

First, in the true RBA spirit it should be 7.2%.

Second, I’m glad we got to keep madhaus employed. Real Estater’s wisdom spoke to us almost 4 years ago and his words still resonate today. I’m pretty sure madhaus keeps the site running for the same reasons Real Estater keeps working.

Happy New Year! May all rentards become proud homeowners!

  9. SEA Says:

    From Housing Tracker:
“The median asking price for homes in San Francisco peaked in May 2006 at $668,570 and is now $271,820 (40.7%) lower. From a low of $391,180 in January 2011, the median asking price in San Francisco has increased by $5,570 (1.4%).”

The seasonally adjusted Case-Shiller index for San Francisco (SFXR-SA) peaked at 219.22 in March 2006. The latest value is 130.2, or 40.6% lower.

Question: How much lower would values be if the RBA were excluded from this useless aggregate data?

  10. ms Says:

The SF index includes the 80 percent of SF that isn’t RBA.
40 percent down since 2006? That seems about right for non-RBA.

  11. ms Says:

Burbed is the only site that lays out what’s wrong with a specific neighborhood, a specific house, without ALL CAPS Realtor-happy speak.
This is the most valuable site for anyone considering buying in Burbed-land.

  12. Overheard in San Carlos Says:

Thanks Burbed and Madhaus for another year of hilariously funny RBA posts. It’s great to be part of a group who also thinks that RE in the Bay Area such a target-rich environment to poke fun at.

..and I didn’t even know that Madhaus was a Ms!! (Or Mrs. or Miss)… Learn something new every day on Burbed. Happy New Year everyone!

  13. Sam_Adu Says:

Buy quality Viagra here…ah haha, just kidding. Thanks Burbed editors for a fun blog in 2011!

Can’t wait to submit whatever junkhole I purchase in 2012 or 2013 to the site!

Three cheers to all and may the RBA real estate prices continue rising in 2012!!!

  14. bmwman91 Says:

2011 was my first year following along in here, and it has been a lot of fun (and informative). Let’s hope that 2012 continues to provide a plethora of vomit-when-you-see-them RE listings, since it is unlikely to provide the price drops we all hope for!

  15. Divasm Says:

I also discovered this site this year…came for the snark and stayed for the therapy as I searched the semi-RBA for a home, which we finally found. But now I’m addicted to burbed’s site, madhaus’ epic posts and the high level of humor and wit the regulars here display. (Although I will attempt to deny I ever said that later I am sure!)

Here’s wishing everyone a Happy Real Bay Area New Year!

  16. The Gilroy Alex Says:

    Happy New Year everyone!

I’ve actually been here since the Surfer-X days.

This site is excellent and always gives one a reason to buy now Now NOW!

What, are you still here? Go out and buy some RE!

Here’s to more “instant equity” in the New Year!

  17. ms Says:

    First for 2012!
    Happy New Year;-)

    Tee hee hee.

  20. A. Lewis Says:

Thanks for the site, thanks for keeping it going, madhaus! I lurk more than I troll, now, but I still love you!

  21. Alex Says:

After months-long binge of booze, drugs and hookers, I’m back to check on you schlepps.

    Hope all is well.

I don’t know why you guys are all trying to pump madhouse’s ego. Her pathetic attempts at snark and sarcasm are quite feeble.

Almost as feeble as Real Excreter’s old woman.
