Feel the WOW!

Silicon Valley may seem like the the only economic engine driving California in 2012, but let’s not forget there’s other places to live in the Bay Area.  Many of the high-paying jobs in San Francisco are in the same industry as those 50 miles south, which means many of you could consider living in a real city.

Yet downtown SF and environs is everything that Santa Clara County is not: hip, cool, exciting and not a front lawn to be seen for miles.  Thanks very much to Burbed reader Petsmart Groomer for this eye-popping penthouse in SoMa.

Here’s what motivated Petsmart Groomer to share this place with the greater Burbed community:

What cracked me up… "$800K+ (per owner) custom designer finishes"
Bought 2 years ago for $1,145,000, on the market now for $2M.

Plus a firepit.  I’m feeling that WOW! factor already.  I thought you had to buy in Sunnyvale to get one of those.

120226-mission-tiesAnd, you also get 2 parking with EXTRA high ceilings.  That’s for buyers who absolutely must garage their London double-decker busses.

But those $800K+ (per owner) customer designer finishes mean this 1,613 sf condo (per county records) should be worth at least $8K more than as originally furnished.  Good luck with that wishing price.

The best example of the WOW! factor? $851.38 monthly homeowners dues.  You’ll feel the WOW! every time you write that check along with the mortgage.  Buy with Redfin and save $22,478.

You’ll be saying something that RHYMES with ‘wow’ as you grab your ankles for the HOA every month.

I took one look at those HOA fees and said, “Ciao!”

Here’s some news on the foreclosure front.

California asks that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac halt foreclosures

    LA Times

Moving beyond a settlement between states and big banks over foreclosure problems, California’s attorney general is taking aim at the nation’s mortgage finance machine, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Atty. Gen. Kamala D. Harris asked the Federal Housing Finance Agency, the agency regulating the government-controlled mortgage titans, to halt foreclosures until it has completed a “thorough, transparent analysis of whether principal reduction is in the best interests of struggling homeowners as well as taxpayers.”

Harris’ request for a pause in processing foreclosures, made in a letter released Monday to the Federal Housing Finance Agency, follows last month’s multi-state settlement that requires the nation’s five largest mortgage servicers to reduce principal for certain borrowers.

RBA baby, please pay an extra $1.6M for the finishes.

This listing doesn’t qualify as housing porn even with all the closeup shots. realtard shoulda used vaseline on the camera lens.

  6. Sierra Cyd Says:

Technically SOMA, but with a flavor of loin that is quite tender.

  7. Michael Boltonestater Says:

    Definitely not Real™ SOMA.

Walking distance to 6th St though, it’s worth something. Something negative.

  8. Percival Says:

This is not racist, so please dont interpret it as such, its just a fact. As you said Palo Alto is the new Cupertino. Gunn is now majority Asian, and if you are going to any of the open houses in Palo Alto that figure will be soon a majority. Mainland Chinese and Koreans are buying up real estate as part of a visa requirement and to get their kids into good schools. This is fine. They are nice hardworking students. But there cannot be a change in population without a change in culture. These people are not the geeks of the golden age of Silicon Valley. They are factory owners who made it in Asia and want to invest it somewhere safe. So the nature of Silicon Valley is becoming way more conservative, which will stifle innovation, and is turning Palo Alto into CUpertino, so the innovators are going to South San Francisco. That is where I would buy now!

  9. The Gilroy Alex Says:

Percival – it’s the difference between people who grew up building go-karts, building radios from scratch, model rocketry, all kinds of hands-on geekery, and people who don’t want their kids to ever get their hands dirty, and thing maxing the SAT is the end-all and be-all.

    Snobs.

    Reduced to (obviously) $1,888,000.
