UPDATED: Close to Costco/Google

Burbed_guest_bloggerIt’s been at least a few days since we featured a house in Mountain View.  Fortunately, this grave error is about to be rectified with a guest post!  Today Burbed reader mabel du will be your guest blogger.  Please give mabel du, Burbed’s very own e.e. cummings, a big, warm, Real Bay Area welcome.

Once again, we have a Mountain View property (it’s hot there, I tell you, hot! hot! hot!) that was completely removed from the well-behaved listing sites.  We’ll assume this is another case of Pending/Do Not Show, Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect Listing Photos Online.  Thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster for certain not-so-well-behaved websites, so we can bring you the pix.  Today’s listing laggard is Sawbuck.  Thanks for taking your time!

Update 12 noon: For those without Sawbuck sign-ins, we’ve added a few more photos at the end so you can appreciate teh awesome.

120910-jane-kitchenhere’s a dilly.  nothing particularly spectacular about the house, but the realtor’s comments?  they’re oh-so-educational.  clearly, the buying public it too stoopid to know what the rooms are, so the realtor titled each picture.

i’d never have guessed what that there room was with all the cabinets and appliancey stuff, but she helped me understand with the label “kitchen”.  and the education continues for each room.  except…

except for the mysterious “Garage converted to sound room/bedroom with private entrance(permits uk)”  curious and curiouser – what could it possibly be???

interesting that her text description doesn’t match to the stats posted on the same page;  4 bedrooms vs 3;  1344 sq ft  vs  1104 sq ft.  but her comment “(permits uk)” pretty much answers the question, in weird circular logic.  assuming “uk” equals ‘unknown’ and not a weird worm hole back to jolly ol’ england.

Update: Added some more photos.  —ed.

    Anarchy in the UK!

  2. CB Says:

    Permits? Uk! No way!

  3. very amused Says:

At least it isn’t a Portal to Hell.

  4. nomadic Says:

And the listing is down! The main thing my eye was drawn to on the page now is the value estimate of $706,500. I suspect the buyer didn’t get a bargain.

  5. Divasm Says:

I like this sentence: “Spa and large storage shed.”

Does that mean their backyard storage shed has been converted into a day spa (permits UK)?

  6. madhaus Says:

I just checked the listing and it’s still there, but I had to sign in to see it. Was hoping another property would get Burbed & Perturbed.

  7. dollarbin Says:

I suspect the buyer is going to pay even more than the list price. Monta Loma is now officially berzerk, as of yesterday it just broke the (cut to Dr. Evil) One Million Dollars mark for an updated but otherwise unexpanded 3/2 single family home:
According to Pat Jordan’s email newsletter, escrow was a scant 12 days which likely means an all cash offer.

  8. nomadic Says:

Ah, I remember the old bubble days when you could fog the mirror and shove through your mortgage to close in ten days.

  9. madhaus Says:

For those of you without Sawbuck logins, I’ve added four more pictures of the house, complete with the agent’s helpful titling.

  10. SEA Says:

Anyone spending $800k definitely needs those captions.

  11. SEA Says:

    From Redfin:

“Mar 30, 2006 Sold (Public Records) $800,000 10.1%/yr Public Records

Sep 01, 1995 Sold (Public Records) $290,000 1.2%/yr Public Records
May 09, 1991 Sold (Public Records) $275,000 — Public Records”

Listed for 2006 selling price. A feature of RBA2.0?

  12. nomadic Says:

SEA, don’t worry. The overbidding will take care of everything.

  13. mabeldu Says:

i looked at the house back in ’06; didn’t consider buying it.

i do remember one of the Monta Loma houses back then had a huge hot tub in the backyard – it may have been this one since the realtor wants to highlight “spa”. assuming it’s the same house/spa, from what i remember that wasn’t a highlight!

i am curious about the upgrades (?) made, what really happened in the garage/soundroom/bedroom (uk), and the current sales price.

  14. Michael Boltonestater Says:

Mardell house: $161k over asking (almost 20%), possible all-cash offer… Someone must have thought it was Palo Alto. Or did someone get access to the latest API score already? How are the schools there?

  15. Crissa Says:

I always wonder why these all-cash offers aren’t losing their shirts.

  16. madhaus Says:

Heh. Nobody noticed that the added photo above captioned “Half bath” is not a half bath at all. The shower curtain is only blocking about a third of the bath.

  17. nomadic Says:

That’s because it says “hall bath…”

  18. madhaus Says:

    Hall bath? That’s very different.
