Kittehz 4 Sale on ur haiwhey

Here’s a property coming on the market that you don’t see every day.  The Cats estate in Los Gatos is for sale.  It’s right off Highway 17 just a mile south of downtown Los Gatos, next to the The Cats Restaurant & Tavern.  Thanks very much to Burbed reader Kir from Inside Los Gatos for passing this item along.

More info, and videos, are at the agent’s site.  The property is nine separate parcels consisting of over 75 acres of land, with three different originally built houses.  Views galore, of course.  It can be yours for $8,995,000.

Does nine million seem like the right price for a property like this?  Think of all the fun you’ll have with everyone who ever knew you in elementary school dropping by because “they were in the neighborhood.”

This is the gatehouse above right.  Below is the main house.

All these pictures were snagged from the videos on Duane Adam’s site.  Below left is a view inside the main house, and below right is the Poet’s Cottage.  The latter gives just a taste of the views from the property.  Plenty more in the videos, plus footage from the 1930s!

Watch the daughter of the current owner get all choked up over the property being sold.  She says whoever gets the property will be “very lucky,” so why didn’t they price it at $8,888,888?

One thing we did discover that isn’t on Adam’s site: the actual address.  If you bought the Cats Estate, you’ll be receiving your mail at 17525 Santa Cruz Hwy, Los Gatos, CA 95033

Unlike the usual snark, this is actually quite cool.

One of the videos shows a wedding at the main house. It could be a good venue to rent out, as well as to use as a B&B.

The drawback is the scary narrow and steep road you have to drive up to get there.

sprezzatura, what’s this? You’re tired of the usual snark? I have to admit, it was difficult to poke fun at this property, and for once, the agent’s comments aren’t wildly optimistic. Even the asking price isn’t too high… which makes me suspect the buildings have some serious structural concerns.

  4. Jb Says:

It looks so cool. Seems like a deal given the location.

  5. Crissa Says:

They used to put up christmas trees along their drive. Except the for last year, for the last five, the front entrance was blocked by fallen trees. They’d even removed some of the cats statues.

I’d suspected they’d fallen on hard times.

  6. Petsmart groomer Says:

$1M price cut. Now only $7,999,950.

  7. Petsmart groomer Says:

    Now $5,999,000.

Price cut in March, April ($6,850,000) and May. Does anyone want to bet on the June price?

  8. nomadic Says:

I read an article saying they’ve divided the property into two parcels to improve their chances of selling. The new price might be for less land.

  9. nomadic Says:

Yeah, this article says 75 acres. Redfin shows 36 acres.

I hope this sells soon. The tax reassessment can help replace (in a small way) the huge revenue that will be lost if the town council doesn’t override the dopes on the planning commision regarding the new Netflix campus. Tomorrow is the last big meeting to try to allow the four story buildings they need.
