Election Day Special
If you haven’t already sent in your absentee ballot, today is the day for you to vote. There’s a clutch of candidates who made speeches and some of them are going to get elected. Burbed has not endorsed any specific candidates, but we have a guide to the state propositions based on how much each would increase the value of your house.
Now, here’s the house we’d vote for if it were on the ballot. Thanks very much to Burbed reader MJ for nominating it!

Here’s MJ’s nominating speech.
I’ve read the blog for a while but never felt compelled to send anything in. Until now. I believe I found a home with every Burbed cliche. It is a crapshack. It has a sweet price history, quadrupling in price in fourteen years, eights in the listing price, garage converted to “living unit with two bedrooms and a kitchen”, awful location on a busy road (though oddly the listing copy mentions its proximity to a different busy road), seven photos of the stove, and insane listing copy noting twice it isn’t a short sale. It even has DHO, see the reflection in the patio door.
I don’t feel like I can take credit for this. The realtor really deserves it all.
Oh it gets better. My wife found out it come with Sunnyvale utilities but Santa Clara schools, four Redfin agent comments, and the first shot is a Google street view. We really have hit every Burbed cliche except pink house.
But was it a former meth lab? Got ya there, huh?
MJ sent us a link to Redfin, which was perfectly fine when we checked it out a couple of days ago, but this is what we see now. Another Burbed cliche, the listing got pulled the day we wanted to write it up. Fortunately it’s still on almost every other real estate site (for now), so we’re going to grab those pictures while the grabbing is good.
Whoa, how’s this for a cliche? Search for the house by address, click on the Trulia listing, and get the wrong house in the wrong town. We swear we’re not making this up, but the Google link to the house was sending us to 1395 Jefferson in Santa Clara. Whew!
At least the Redfin comments are still there, even if the 24 photos were taken down. See some of what you missed, after the break.

You may not believe us, but there are more photos of the stove, if you can still find the listing on one of those links we provided.

I’m voting for you MJ! That’s a real “turkey” house.

What about Vermin Supreme? Write him in!
Hey look! A new stove!

This one is going to be REAL tough to beat.

I personally love the menacing photo of the long hallway with the “I”s running all the way down it. (Way to emphasize how narrow it is, flipper!) The smudges all over the dishwasher are pretty awesome too.
MJ, you have learned the ways of burbed well! Excellent choice.

Got my vote!

Here’s the listing history from Zillow. It’s really quite something.
While this house looks like a flip, it wasn’t bought this year unless there’s missing sales history. Redfin’s record had any associated history wiped out when the listing itself was taken down. Maybe 4 other sites had the listing missing, including classic slow-on-the-uptake Sawbuck, but as of last night I found plenty that still had that awesome copy and those 24 Views of Mount Stovie.
Anyone actually vote today? I voted two weeks ago by mail (I’m permanent absentee, which is the way to go). All those election flyers and cards mailed here were a complete waste of money.
The county elections page says 46% of vote by mail ballots have been returned as of yesterday. That’s 278K returned of about 600K ballots, and there are 1.45M registered voters in Santa Clara County.

Good point, it only looks like a flip with the same wonderful quality of work and design.
I don’t know anyone who is voting today – they all did it by mail too. It’s sad that only 46% of votes have been returned. Does that exclude the ones that people forgot to sign? I understand those get rejected on receipt. What happens to the ones with only $0.45 postage? Are they delivered anyway?

good gawd, who did the tile work? the hallway looks stupid, but the bathroom is offensive. looks like they bought a couple colors of sale marble, but not enough to do one complete job. there are clever ways to mix tile colors, but that ain’t one of ‘em.
that stove is trying to be Waldo, but it’s not very sneaky. neither is the toilet in 3 pix – at least the lid is down.

Offensive?! That bathroom was designed by Charlie Brown. Looks just like his shirt.
