That’s right! Bring it! When you do, maybe you can figure out what’s in the structure in the back and why the roof looks, um, distressed.

They did say it was a nice started home. You just have to figure out what they started. But look on the bright side. It’s a gated community!

Sold in 2005 for $283,500???! Listed for 5 days? Hardly. It’s been on the market almost continuously since 2008.
If you check Zillow, it says the house was to be sold in a foreclosure auction 8/25/11. I guess no one wanted it.

$283,500? I’m surprised it’s so low, since it’s just over half our “not a lot of money” standard. The “overbidding” should have taken care of everything.

This house is the poster child for “permits unknown”. Yikes.
I suspect it served as an underground pharmacy with poor ventilation.

I agree, gallileo. Look at that dark circle in the neighbor’s yard as well. I’m thinking… Meth lab. I mean free markets at work!

> dark circle
Seeing that I imagine the worst thing about living here would be the constant noise from leather-clad Raider Nation types milling about next door and shouting “THIS IS OAKLAND!!!” as they kick 49ers fans into that thing.

There’s a tarp over the roof in the Google map. And street view shows an incarcerated chair across the street.

i’m sure it’s a lovely home, if you don’t want to live there. i mean – buy it, and you won’t be alive very long.
that’s east oaktown, baby. i wouldn’t drive there after dusk. daytime is also questionable, but do-able if you’re really fast. i survived a couple rough spots in oakland for 12 years; us veterans know what to avoid if you like that part of life called living.
google street view, of the actual street, shows the google cam-car half blurred; he’s peddling as fast as he can!
the tar pit next door? must be the portal to hell, except you’d already be in hell… so it must be a worm hole to a safe place. if only you could make it past the 14 pitbulls guarding it.

Another possibility is the dark circle is the mythical Portal to Hell that’s usually hidden in a basement.

Jinx. Snap. Oh hell.

91st ave and east 13th. Lock up your pit bull or it will get stolen!

[...] Yesterday’s house seems to be a disappointment to some of you. There were some critics calling out the neighborhood, or maybe the neighbors themselves. Maybe you don’t understand what we’re doing here. We said we would find you the cheapest house in every county. We are then doing that. If the neighborhood isn’t la-di-dah enough for your sip-your-tea-with-a-raised-pinky types, just keep your jodhpurs on. We’ll include some Real Bay Area cities in our Black Friday Deals. [...]
