Living at its best… in Downtown Campbell
Mmmm Good! That’s what Campbell’s Soup is… but how about Campbell’s Real Estate? Campbell doesn’t tend to get a lot of respect when people talk about where they want to buy, but let’s look at its positive qualities. It’s equally inconvenient to most freeways, so no location fail on that score! It’s definitely got varied housing stock, which means there should be something for everyone (provided by “everyone” we do not mean people looking in the Real Bay Area). And it’s got so many crapboxen, we find ourselves dipping into the Campbell well again and again for featured homes!
Let’s look at today’s proud property listing, sent in by Burbed reader Lefty Lucy.

Okay, Double L, tell us about this house you’ve picked.
Irregular but frequent reader, first time sender (though you must have gotten this from others as well!).
I guess the bubble really is back. $961/square foot bungalow in oh-so-desirable Campbell: Ouch! First time buyers like me are priced out forever, I guess (not that I’m shopping in Campbell, but it’s beyond crazy in my Santa Clara neighborhood as well).
$961? Who do they think they are, Mountain View?

Also note that this half a million dollar house is a pre-war bungalow. That’s pre-World War I.

You should be looking at the instant equity, from seven years ago. If this were Real RBA, then the price would be double.

588 sq ft, it’s a gnome home. since there’s a step in front of the fridge, i think gnomes actually live there.
“cozy yard with fruit trees” don’t think i’ve ever seen cozy describing a yard before this gem. from the overhead shot, it looks like 1 giant tree covers the whole yard. maybe that’s where the keebler family lives.

The Real Estalker mentions rumors that the $117M home buyer is a Korean banker, whose wife or mistress wants it for summer vacations. This supports the always popular Foreigners with Suitcases full of Cash meme. Heck, this meme needs its own tag, but we need something shorter. FSC?
Of course the other rumor is that it’s Larry.

It has an awesome pre-WWI corrugated shed in back too. (See street view.)
I can almost convince myself that it’s better than a condo, but even a condo would probably have twice the square footage.

So honored to have my contribution listed!
It was really the “maths” that got me on this one. $961 per square foot? For a 588 square foot crapshack? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!

“It was really the “maths” that got me on this one. $961 per square foot?”
The current seller purchased it for more than that a few years ago.

I can’t decide, looking at the photos, if the house has been professionally staged or not. If that’s the case then the seller seriously needs to find a company that has access to smaller furniture. Much smaller furniture. Gnome-sized furniture.
The photos remind me of an antique store and not in a good way. Just knowing this house exists gives me claustrophobia.

BTW, what is with that bizarre front door with three windows in it? Those windows have gnome blinds on them. It’s vaguely creepy.
