Oh Please Oh Please Oh Please in Woodside

Sometimes we run across some terrific properties where the listing is canceled before we can feature it. And as long as we can still find the information online somewhere, we’ll still share it with our fans.  Today’s featured home spent more than TWO YEARS waiting for a suitor and finally went home from the Ball, alone and dejected.  But now the housing bubble is back, at least in the Real Bay Area.  So we’re hoping to see this house on the market again Real Soon Now.

BOARDER OF ATHERTON! LOS LOMITAS SCHOOLS! 2.89 ACRES! OVER 17,000 SAUARE FEET! The Buck Estate. Designed by noted architect Albert Farr, who modeled Buck after Hampton Court in Middlesex, England, a 16th century royal family residence. Brick & stucco cut stone, high Gothic arches, slate roof,& bay views. Ornate plaster details, beautiful rooms of original carved wood panelling.

Wait a minute, this place looks very familiar.

And the current listing photos on Movoto are exactly the same as the ones from almost two years ago. What isn’t the same is the price.  Looks like this charming cottage took a 22% haircut before leaving the barber’s chair.  Let’s have another look inside.

These pictures look way worse blown up larger (click ‘em!). And now that any fool can take HDR photos on an iPhone, maybe this is all we should expect.  After all it is the BOARDER OF ATHERTON.

    “BOARDER OF ATHERTON”

Like a tattooed wild child, maybe?

  2. wahnny Says:

Although 9s are good for longevity, perhaps it needs more 8s.

  3. gallileo Says:

But hey! It “boarders” Atherton. If I were confident the agent knew how to spell, I would think that this house keeps the entire population of Atherton as paying guests.

Of course, I’m not confident the agent knew how to spell, or had the money to hire a proofreader. After all, when you are looking for 3% on a cool $10,000,0000–that’s $300,000, which is less than not a lot of money–why would you fork over $20 to make the listing look professional?

  4. SEA Says:

#3- BOARDER OF ATHERTON, not “It “boarders” Atherton.”

    Atherton needs a skate park…

  5. SEA Says:

    “OVER 17,000 SAUARE FEET!”

If each boarder has two SAUARE feet, how many boarders are there?

  6. nomadic Says:

You guys missed the 17,000 SAUARE FEET.

In spite of the unprofessional listing copy, I’m surprised this place didn’t sell. Woodside should attract the type of person who wants a ginormous medieval-style house – and can afford it. The price doesn’t seem outrageous for what it is.

I’m surprised this hasn’t been snapped up, considering how “in” the British architecture should be right now due to Downtown Abbey, right? Then again, “Breaking Bad” didn’t cause there to be a run on meth houses so maybe television doesn’t affect the housing market that much…

I’m assuming there were interested buyers but the repair bill is probably twice the home price, and that’s what’s scarning everyone away.

If you look at the listing history, there was a foreclosure. In 1994. Although Redfin has the same event tagged as a multi-property sale. Hmmm.

  9. SEA Says:

“but the repair bill is probably twice the home price, and that’s what’s scarning everyone away.”

    Exactly!

  10. sonarrat Says:

I’m ready to board Atherton, yarrrrrr.

  11. Divasm Says:

Maybe they meant “There’s no way you could be more bored (border?boreder?) than if you were in Atherton”

  12. Rickety419 Says:

That weird castle and the name “Boarder of Atherton” add up to this being a remake of “Tenant of Wildfell Hall”, if you’ll all pardon the allusion.
