Rare Find in Palo Alto!

Every area in life has The Three Words.  In relationships, it’s “I love you,” in business, “It’s a deal,” in math, “Quod erat demonstratum,” and in Latin, “Igpay Atlinlay Erehay.”  We’re sure you can also name The Three Words of Real Estate.

Yes, The Three Words of Real Estate are “Sold AS-IS.”  Unless it’s “Palo Alto million.”  Perfect for investor.

I thought the three words were “Location, Location, Location”?

  2. Nopants Says:

The other property is 170 Hawthorne, and it’s perpendicular to this lot, so for only $1,975,000 M, you can build on a 5,550sft L-shaped lot!

  3. Steve Says:

LOL, this house is Zestimated at $1.4 million.

  4. Alex Says:

Buy now or be priced out forevah!

Some old gomer decided to split his lot into 2 and sell for double. 2 meeeyun, bitchez.

They are indeed, z-man, they are indeed. Move right in!

Ain’t nothin’ rare about this house:

Vintage ’50s home in Palo Alto? Check!
    Decades of deferred maintenance? Check!
    Basically uninhabitable? Check!
    Totally insane price? Check!
Two blocks from the train tracks? Check!

Houses like this are $12 million a dozen in Shallow Alto, but it is north of Oregon Expressway, so it has that going for it.

Big score for Prop 13 – assessed value is $47k. That’s right: $100/month in property tax.

  8. InTheBiz Says:

Home was built in 1910, has about fifty years of deferred maintenance. No Home Depot remodel, or any remodel, so still has the original Craftsman details. Listing agent tells me she got twenty-five offers on it and the house next door, 170 Hawthorne, part of the same estate and also for sale (and in the same condition). That’s twenty-five offers to buy *both* houses, not twenty-five offers on one house or the other. Based on that, Zillow’s price is probably right (for once). Offers were due 12/17/13, as of 1/8/14 the three attorneys representing the estate hadn’t responded.

Hoo boy, lots of good comments in waiting-for-approval purgatory. A few added here and in the Online Appraisal Engine piece.

  14. InTheBiz Says:

So much for staying anonymous 🙂 I couldn’t figure out how to change my avatar.

  15. nomadic Says:

(Psst, John, you either have to post with a different email address, or link a second email address to the avatar account with another pic.) If you want to fade back into anonymity, I’m sure madhaus could oblige if you email her.

Thanks for spicing things up around here.

But we’ll always remember… Roger made that mistake once years ago and we’re still talking about it today!

  17. dollarbin Says:

Sorry to out you InTheBiz, I’m a big fan of the info you posted about Eichlers on your web site, I’m an Eichler owner in the Fairview (Mountain View) tract. Hope you stay and play, this place has been pretty quiet lately.

  18. InTheBiz Says:

It’s cool. This way I have to mind my manners.

  19. DreamT Says:

    Roger that!

John’s just checking in after a website revamp, hoping that madhaus will get the hint and update the broken link on the right-hand side… 🙂

  20. madhaus Says:

Since InTheBiz didn’t ask me to change his avatar, the least I could do is fix his busted link. Thanks for the heads-up, DreamT. And yes, I’d be happy to feature him as a guest poster, since I’ve been spending most of my time in a drunken stupor anyway. (At least that’s what not writing real estate posts feels like.)

  21. InTheBiz Says:

    I feel you madhaus.

  22. AL Says:

This house sold for $1.6 million, $600,000 over asking!!! The $1 million asking price was a super lowball.
