    The other property is 170 Hawthorne, and it’s perpendicular to this lot, so for only $1,975,000 M, you can build on a 5,550sft L-shaped lot!

    But PALO ALTO SCHOOLS!

    Basically uninhabitable? Check!
    Totally insane price? Check!
    Two blocks from the train tracks? Check!

    Houses like this are $12 million a dozen in Shallow Alto, but it is north of Oregon Expressway, so it has that going for it.

    Big score for Prop 13 – assessed value is $47k. That’s right: $100/month in property tax.

    Home was built in 1910, has about fifty years of deferred maintenance. No Home Depot remodel, or any remodel, so still has the original Craftsman details. Listing agent tells me she got twenty-five offers on it and the house next door, 170 Hawthorne, part of the same estate and also for sale (and in the same condition). That’s twenty-five offers to buy *both* houses, not twenty-five offers on one house or the other. Based on that, Zillow’s price is probably right (for once). Offers were due 12/17/13, as of 1/8/14 the three attorneys representing the estate hadn’t responded.

    This house sold for $1.6 million, $600,000 over asking!!! The $1 million asking price was a super lowball.
