One of the lowest priced single family homes in Fremont. Huge lot with tons of potential. Lot goes from one street to the next, drive in from Joseph St. or Church Ave. Dual pane windows. Nice neighborhood.

Here’s what Burbed reader sonarrat had to say:

Look at the map.. isn’t Joseph two blocks from Church? Very strange.

Hey, this is Fremont – things don’t have to make sense. It’s not real Bay Area after all.

Or actually, is it? At $604 per square foot, this house is conveniently located near the Amtrak station, offering ease of access to trains.

Suddenly, I’m not so sure. Hey Fremont, if you keep this up, you might just be in the Real Bay Area soon. And then maybe you can drive a few blocks to go from Mountain View to Fremont using your subspace technology!

The Louvre is a house in Fremont! Fit for the Mona Lisa.

$/Sq. Ft.: $424
Lot Size: 6,040 Sq. Ft.
Property Type: Single Family Detached
Style: Contemporary
Year Built: 1984
Stories: 2

Desirable location in Fremont close to BART. Backyard w/ deck, quiet neighborhood, wide driveway, renovated Kitchen w/ Stainless Steell appliances. Must see to appreciate!THIS IS NOT A SHORT SALE OR REO. .. Original owner.

Burbed reader CB thought this was an important find. Here’s what CB had to say:

It’s listed at 140K above it’s zestimate and and you’ll have to pay about 100 more per sq ft for the 94536 to live in this one.   But who knows.  The house is fit for the Mona Lisa, it may be fit for someone as special as me!

The cat guarding the “original owner’s” valued Betty Boop collection is also a nice touch.  50x scale posters of drinks is always a plus. This listing makes a good argument for keeping the camera on the curb.

Indeed, the ZEstimate is just $524,500. But as we know, ZEstimates tend to undervalue Bay Area (even non-RBA) properties because they don’t have a model to account for specialness.

That said, let’s take a look at the interior!

Yep. That’s the Mona Lisa alright. And check out the Roman-esque bust! And the Christmas tree! Wow. What a cornucopia of Classic Art. Stunning!

And to complete the museum, lots of modern art.

Frankly, if they’re not charging admission to go see this house, they are truly missing out!

Single Family Property, Lot is 1020 sq. ft., Year Built: 1971, Ocean view, Waterview, Two story, Community swimming pool(s), Laundry room, Hardwood floors

Sweet! Ocean views at a bargain basement price! Sure, it’s not The Real Bay Area, but it’s close enough… I mean, Fremont is sort of near Palo Alto.

Let’s see what Burbed reader John had to say:

If I recall correctly, this is the stinkiest part of Fremont.  You have industry and that putrid marsh smell in the summer.  What a deal!

Yeah, but how long is summer anyway? besides, doesn’t every go away during the summer to Europe? You just refi and unlock that trapped equity!

Even if you can’t afford Europe, you can pretend that you’re living in Cannes with this fine fine home. Ocean views – wowsers.

You can flip this Fremont house to Jay Leno or Ralph Lauren

35680n.jpg

Thanks to Burbed reader R.D. for sending this a few weeks ago.

Wow… parking for 22 cars. That makes sense – after all, you’re living in Fremont which means you’re savvy – you’re saving some of your cash flow to invest in other assets like cars.

I bet you can buy this house now and flip it to Jay Leno or Ralph Lauren so they can park there cars in Fremont. Or, better yet – buy a big car and you can open your own Park ‘n’ Fly to SJC/SFO/OAK.

Smell the CASH FLOW BABY!!!! Too bad it’s sold already. Keep your eyes peeled for another great deal like this!

So far that’s not so bad – I mean come on, if this were in The Real Bay Area, it would easily be $700k or $800k!

Here’s what Burbed reader Balachander had to say:

My wife and I are regular readers at your website and enjoy every post! Here is an interesting home that might perk your interest:

If the awesome fence doesn’t interest you then maybe the two gar garage will. What not even that pleases you? How about 4th bedroom/bonus room? ……if that still doesn’t please you, then look at the last photo. I read an article that Zip lining is becoming a fashion in the Lake Tahoe area (Heavenly Ski Resort)……with this home you can have hours and hours of fun zip lining right outside your home! Sweet!!

Hm, we must look at that last picture:

fremont2.jpg

Nice! I think I saw this piece at the SF MOMA once!

But hey, it’s got a view of the mountains! That’s priceless – because nothing says “awesome” like seeing a giant natural barrier!

Welcome to Silicon Valley.

Burbed reader Cynthia asks:

Seriously where’s the middle? Am I missing something?  Where is the house cut in 1/2?

Well Cynthia – as you know, the Bay Area has the world’s most perfect weather. It’s fact.

Thus, you don’t really need the other half of this house. In fact, it’s actually a time saver because there’s less house to clean – that means you have more time to spend at work on your multi-trillion dollar startup, or sit in traffic in Fremont, or whatever.

Win-win if you ask me!

Lovely home in great location! Home is located at the end of a cul-de-sac. Quiet neighborhood. 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a family room. Home also has side access.

Burbed Reader U.P. had this to say:

I am regular reader/lurker at your site. I know that Fremont has been kicked out of the Bay Area but still a 23% LOSS (list price – we don’t know how low it will finally sell) in 1 year. It’s going to get really bad here!

Ouchers. Well it turns out this house was sold on 11/7/2006 for $649k.

Further proof that the East Bay is no longer part of the Bay Area.

Maybe next year you can join us again – just gotta get those prices back up!

(Oh, and don’t let the map above deceive you – this house is located a good 2 blocks away from tranquil 880)

Poll: What do you think about moving to Fremont?

Burbed reader Riti asked this question:

Hi Burbed,

I enjoy your blog. Am currently in LA but husband seriously wants to move back to the Bay Area, where he grew up. The family has been pushing the idea of moving to Fremont on us constantly. Allegedly some of the very best schools in the Bay and relatively affordable. Just thought it may be interesting to write more on Fremont — is it too good to be true?

Alas, this writer hasn’t really spent enough time in Fremont to answer those questions. That said, whenever I think of Fremont, I think of this classic post by Ernie: “an open letter to the city of fremont, ca“. But then again, Ernie is a gay man. You seem to have a different situation.

It appears the high school is ranked #148 in the nation. I guess that’s not too bad.

Riti, you might like this starter home I found for you in Fremont at 37521 Church – it’s the same price as a 1br in Sunnyvale:

Just think about how much money you’ll save by doing your laundry outdoors! And based on the sales history, I think there’s a lot of potential for you to get some instant equity!

Sale History
06/04/2007: $398,226
04/01/2005: $450,000

What do readers think about moving to Fremont? Is it too good to be true?

Please help Riti!

"The blue door sold me!!!, Minus 20k and you have a winner!!!!"

Burbed doesn’t usually venture to Fremont, but fortunately a Burbed reader Cynthia sent this in:

Here’s what Cynthia had to say:

The blue door sold me!!!, Minus 20k and you have a winner!!!!

Actually this property’s been on the market since Oct.  but it didn’t have the blue door back then. i don’t have that listing no more.
now the property is relisted yet again for the 3rd time for 20k less!

Huh? What blue door? Are we at French Laundry?

46867shaleb.jpg

Ah… that blue door. What an… um… interesting look. By the way, is it just me or is there no refrigerator? You can’t have pergraniteel without a stainless steel fridge!

Finally, here are the notes from Movoto:

There’s not enough to go on right now to make fun of this house – but the name of the street is mildly amusing. “What’s your address sir? Can you spell that please? Is this a prank call?”
