Spanish Revival, huh?

Let’s take a look at what that is:

The Spanish Colonial Revival Style was a United States architectural movement that came about in the early 20th century, starting in Florida as a regional expression related to both history and environment. The Spanish Colonial Revival Style was also influenced by the opening of the Panama Canal and the overwhelming success of the novel Ramona. Based on the Spanish Colonial style architecture that dominated in the early Spanish colonies of both North and South America, Spanish Colonial Revival updated these forms for a new century.

Early champions of the Spanish Colonial Revival include Orlando, Florida architect Frederick H. Trimble whose Farmer’s Bank in Vero Beach predates the Panama-California Exposition of 1915 in San Diego. The San Diego Fair has been credited with drawing national attention to the aesthetic potential of this style.

The movement enjoyed its greatest popularity between 1915 and 1931 and was most often exhibited in single-level detached houses.

Wow! Nothing could possibly be more Spanish that houses built in the Spanish Revival style. After you buy this house, you should have a house warming party where you serve your guests authentic Japanese California rolls for appetizers, followed with an entree of authentic Spaghetti with meatballs, wrapped up with a dessert of authentic Chinese fortune cookies.

And clearly this is valuable – just 6 days listed and it is already pending. Congrats San Carlos! You’re definitely Real Bay Area!

French doors open to slate patio. 2 upstairs bedrooms w/ Jack-n-Jill BA. Ceiling fans throughout. Upstairs family room away from bedrooms for privacy.

Thanks for Burbed reader Rink Rat for sharing this!

Here’s what he had to say:

Oh my god.  Now I see where the term “Realtards” comes from.  Take a  look at MLS 80921524. It has been on the market since 6/17/08 —  basically a year — under a variety of brokerages.    So what do they do to convince people to buy a house that’s obviously massively overpriced?????  They drop  it $10,000.  I can hear the stampede of  buyers from here….

Could someone please call the police in San Carlos to let them know about a possible pending riot. I can see it now, hordes of people are going to descend on this house from San Jose, Washington DC, Seattle, Shanghai, Moscow to snatch it up before it goes off the market.

Traffic is going to be zoo. They’ll need riot gear.

Once this house goes off the market, it will be like the sun imploding – there will be no hope left. People will freak out. 4 horsemen, and all that.

$10,000 has already been droppped from the price. The warning shot has been fired.

Be prepared. Strap on the kevlar before you go.

Any predictions as to what will happen on 7/1?

Amazing price for this square footage. .. appraised at $1,234,000 in 2007. Gorgeous Bay Views. Spacious home approx 2400 sq ft. Upper level w/ adjoining family room, living room, 1/2 bath. Downstairs 4 bedrooms, office, 2.5 baths. Parquet and hardwood under upper level carpeting. Two decks. This is NOT a short sale.

Burbed reader Sam thought this was an interesting find. Here’s what he had to say:

Want to close your sale faster? Highlight a declining market!  (Ignore the 1991 $358,000 sale, roughly 600K in 2009 dollars, it’s irrelevant)

Well, actually the 1991 sales price is important. As we all know. real estate doubles every 10 years. So… by 2011 (2 years from now) it should be worth $1.432M. That makes sense. Highlighting the $1.234M (what a funny number) today indicates just how much instant equity there is available for you to unleash. And, that it is on track to reach that magically doubling number – if it weren’t for the pesky economic woes we have right now.

So get on the right track and buy this very green, very airy house today!

Thanks Sam!

Wowsers! Thanks to Burbed reader Bill for this find! However, when Bill sent this to me, he felt it was overpriced by $300k-$400k.

Frankly, I’ll have to disagree. First, this house has more bathroom than bedroom. That’s +$50k right there. Then it has a free flat screen TV – that’s another +$50k right there. Remote Control for lights and temperature? Another +$50k. This goes on and on and on… and then BOOM – $1.25 baby!

Come on… this isn’t just a townhouse! It’s a corner unit townhouse!

Congratulations San Carlos – at $694 per square foot, you truly are the city of good living.

$629,900 for a 1 bedroom house in San Carlos – REAL BAY AREA

2743 San Carlos Ave, San Carlos, CA 94070 Beverly Terrace MLS# 80828676 – Property Details

2743 San Carlos Ave, San Carlos, CA$629,900

* Bathroom: 1
* Year Built: 1940
* Lot Size: 7000
* Square Footage: 1420
* List Date: 8/18/2008
* Garage Spaces: 2

Congratulations San Carlos. With this house, you are truly and firmly established in “Real Bay Area” territory now. Sure the price per square foot doesn’t meet the bar (Just $443 instead of $600), but it’s the attitude and spirit that counts.

First, let’s look at the fact that there’s just 1 bedroom. That in itself is a bold statement. I mean, $630k for a 1 br/1ba – that’s just classic Real Bay Area.

But wait, there’s more – for this much money, you don’t even get any other photos! No interior shots! YES! YES! This is the kind of FUCK YOU BUYER attitude that all Real Bay Area houses should have. It’s moxie!

Oops! A tear just dropped onto my keyboard as I admire the beauty of this “sinlge” spirit. I’m so proud.

Yet another pink house in San Mateo: San Carlos

1332 Rosewood Ave, San Carlos 94070

Not on the market for over 50 years! Hardwood floors throughout most of the home. Eat in kitchen and dining room. Master bedroom has an additional extra large closet. Nice sized yard with pool with solar heating. No showing until 5/27/08. Great street.

Thanks to an anonymous Burbed reader for this find. Frankly, I’m not sure why there are so many pink houses in San Mateo County. There seems to be a bunch in Redwood City and San Carlos.

Nonetheless, my favorite part of this house is that it hasn’t been on the market for 50 years. Yep, that means the current owner is paying $510 a year in property tax. You? You’ll be paying ~$7390 – about 1300% more. But that’s fair because you’ll be consuming more services than the current owner.

Another aspect is that this house hasn’t been on the market for 50 years. Like a fine wine, this house has clearly gotten more graceful and fine with age. Personally I would buy this house, seal it for another 50 years, and then have a smashing uncorking party. By then, this house will be amazing. In fact, by then, all the items you see in the house will be historic – more instant equity. Just think, you could even charge admission for touring the house!

So be like the Smithsonian and buy this classic house before it’s too late!

Idyllic country setting nestled quietly between million dollar homes in sought after San Carlos Hills. Magnificent views; 7,000 sq ft lot w/ endless development potential. Country Style living, conveniently located to downtown San Carlos. Open House this Sunday 05/04 1:30-4:30

Wow… it looks like Hurley, Ben, and John could’ve simply come to San Carlos to find Jacob’s Cabin. Heh.

But seriously, I’ve always wondered about San Carlos. It’s tiny, there’s not much to be known about this city, so I’ve always had reservations about whether San Carlos, The City of Good Living, is Real Bay Area or not.

Well, this house simply seals the deal. $1073 a square foot? Wowzers. This is Palo Alto territory. And look at the giant plot of land you’re getting – nearly 7000 sqft.

Congratulations San Carlos. Welcome to the club.

BTW, to the next owner: might I suggest building a zip line? That’d be kind of neat!

These days, people want demand authenticity. People don’t want Disneyland like experiences. They want the gritty, the hardcore, the real. People want to feel alive. They despise the fake. Look at how distressed jeans are in style.

And that’s what makes this house so simply amazing – when you look at it, you feel alive. You feel real. You feel like you’re the photojournalist stepping into virgin land.

Let’s take a look:

The gritty back yard with bull dog. The roof with the bricks hold it down. The kitchen. The outdoor washer and dryer. Just like how our manly forefathers lived.

My god. Just looking at these photos make me feel alive. My blood is flowing, my heart is pounding. I feel alive!!!!!!!!!!!!

But you know what? There’s more.

That’s right… it’s across the street from Caltrain. Oh yes! Bring it on!

Buy this house you hipster. You adrenaline junky. You thrill seeker.

Don’t you want to feel alive?

This is an oppertunity for owner or an investor, this property appears to be on a Multifamily Residential lot in a great downtown location. R1 lot in a R3 zone, explor the possibilities with this in town home w/ large 3+car garage. R3 use District: Multiple-family dwellings or apartment houses in a single structure, family care home, two family dwellings in a single family structure;

Sweet. You can now buy the City of San Carlos. And if you look carefully, they even thrown in the Caltrain station! Who knew that San Carlos was only 6,500 sqft though.

But seriously, this is a great opportunity. Just think, you can buy this house now, live in it, and then in a few years, when the house prices has doubled, you can refi, tear down, and build a townhouse! Think of all the passive income baby!

Step 1: Buy house
Step 2: ??????
Step 3: Profit!

If this isn’t the best investment opportunity ever, I don’t know what is. But then again, I’m not an expert on building apartments. Could someone help me do the math to demonstrate how this would be immensely profitable?

(Thanks to Burbed anonymous reader)
