Alright, so it’s in San Mateo – which makes it especially special. It’s sort of in an ok neighborhood to boot. The name of the street is a little funny. Being able to live on this street is definitely worth the $5,258 a month mortgage this will cost you (10% d/30y fixed).

But come on – $949,000 for a 1092 sqft house and you don’t even get interior pictures?

The Community Improvement Commission ordered a Shoreview resident Wednesday to remove cryptic messages written on her home or face as much as $5,000 in fines.

Estrella Benevides, 46, has until Feb. 14 to erase the painted script from her home in the 1800 block of Cottage Grove Avenue, which has been covered with an inscrutable text containing biblical references, conspiracy theories and glimpses into a painful personal history…

Benevides vowed not to remove the messages, which she believes come from God, and to fight the commission’s decision, citing her First Amendment rights to free speech. Commissioners said the problem wasn’t constitutional.

That’s fine you say – after all, renting is throwing away money. Home ownership is good because it mean that you’re a real person and not a nobody – just like having a car in high school.

I don’t get it – how can you be both a motivated seller and threaten that if the house isn’t sold soon it will be come a rental?

BTW, you can rent a nicer 2br/2ba for $2000 just a few blocks away, instead of paying $2620 (with 10% down) for a Interest Only ARM.

According to zillow, this house was sold for $620,000 in 2004. I wonder what kind of improvements that these poor owners spent $149k on and now have to take a $70k loss.

San Mateo County, along with six other Northern and Central California counties, has been declared a state of emergency today by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Alright, so he didn’t say “Come with me if you want to live” – but think about how much cooler it would have been had he said it.

My ballpark guess is that this will boost San Mateo property prices by at least another 5% – just think of the potential listings: “Now with wetlands”
