Are you green with envy about this green house in Redwood City?

102 POPLAR Ave
Redwood City, CA 94061

20131004ab

Being green is all the rage these days. And I don’t think there’s a greener house than this!

Lime green? No not quite. Pea soup green? Hm. Guac green? Sinus green?

But let’s look at the opportunity to grow!

20131004c

I see… so if you expand the back of the house to touch the detached garages… uh… I mean mancaves and media center…. then you’d have a super house. Your house could fill the lot edge to edge! Neat!

What I’m really surprised at is how the realtor left out the convenience factor!

20141004av

My goodness! This house is literally in the crossroads of the world… or Redwood City. Easy access to Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Harry’s Hofbrau, Woodside, El Camino Real, Main Street, car repair shops – the opportunities are endless.

I don’t understand why no one has snapped up this jewel today.

How will you spend the weekend? And will it involve visiting this house?

If you can’t, here’s a free clue.  Just go watch the film now that you know where the ROUS live.

130916-sandiego-roundtableMaybe that’s why the house has been on and off the market since 2009.

Bunus: Many houses featured on Burbed have photos of neighborhood features included in the listing.  This home, like many others, has a few shots taken in the general vicinity of the house, including the BART station (just 4 blocks away!).  Whoo-whoo!

But we believe this is the first listing we’ve ever seen that included a pic of a Round Table Pizza franchise.

Beautiful Turn-key home in Redwood City

Today’s beautiful home is brought to you by Burbed reader Petsmart Groomer. Thanks very much!  And if you see a house for sale and think it ought to be on this front page, please send it to one of the addresses in the upper right corner. We’ll ignore it for weeks until it goes Pending and then frantically look for it in web caching somewhere.  Be sure to include what name you want to be called so we can “accidentally” use your real one instead.

Beautiful Turn-key home with everything remodeled. Brand new kitchen with stainless steel appliances, hardwood floors, crown moulding, new interior doors and garage door. Nicely landscaped yard. A must see!!

130910-junipero-sinkLooks like the only missing cliché is the granite. But from the picture above, “turkey” isn’t the right barnyard metaphor for this property.  Take a look. This is a classic single-nostril Snout House.  The insanely small lot size is just a “bunus.”

And speaking of bunuses, check out how they solved this common architectural challenge of too few square feet for mandatory residential fixtures.

Now, are you ready for your closeup, 1321 Junipero Ave? Well, you already got one, above. We’d like to highlight how well you play with others, as you  can see in Google streetview.

A must see!!

Thirteen Forty Seven: Diamond in the rough part of Old Palo Alto

Yesterday’s house didn’t seem to do it for our readers, or at least the readers who enjoy commenting about properties featured on our site. So today we’re going back to a tried but true perennial: the Palo Alto crapbox, with bunus WTF pricing.  And no, we don’t mean that the way you think we do.

Thanks very much to Burbed reader Michael Boltonestater for sending in today’s house. Oh yeah, one more thing.  PENDING!

130826-alma-movoto1347 Alma St
Palo Alto, CA 94301

Loan Payment: $2,423/mo

Bathrooms: 1

$/sqft: $737/sqft
Type: Single Family House
Year Built: 1925
Lot Size: 1,100
Days on Movoto: 8 days
Neighborhood: Old Palo Alto
MLS#: 81329852
Status: Pending – Do Not Show

Diamond in the rough! Contractor special for a property that needs cosmetic and some possible structural intervention. Price reflects condition. Many possibilities! Don’t miss this great opportunity!

130826-alma-framingDid you say possible structural intervention? Say no more! Nothing like a real challenge to whet the appetite on a Tuesday morning, because the usual shortcomings of a busy street and Elon Musk’s Hyperloop right across from it aren’t sufficient. And if you think that would scare anyone away, think again! How many other properties on 1100 square foot lots went pending in 8 days?

We were sure than lot size was a typo until we took a look at the aerial view.

130826-alma-satellite

This is a one-story house, 848 square feet. Looks like a similarly-sized house shares the lot. 1100 could well be correct. But, seriously, is any price too high for your own quarter of a tenth of an acre in Palo Alto?

Weekend Retreat Property at Undisclosed Address

And it’s Friday again! Let’s wrap up the workweek with another vacation/weekend/check-out-of-the-rat-race property far from the clogged freeways and three Starbucks per business district. Thanks very much to Burbed reader Tom Paine for sending in this relaxing retreat so private, the realtard doesn’t want you to know where it is.

Great area! 1 acre parcel, Extensive work has been performed in upgrading this ranch style country home which includes Chinese oak flooring in living room & formal dining area, paver tile floors in kitchen & main bath, radiant heat, jetted tub, game room, separated extended living areas at rear of home(great for in-laws, caregivers, guests, etc. ) attached shop & garage, circular drive, outbuildings, metal roof and room for everyone & everything

130815-templeman-hottub-guestOh heck, we’ll disclose it: 8426 Templeman Road.  And what’s with this Chinese Oak flooring? Is that anything like Chinese drywall? Similarly, pavers in the kitchen? Is this a thing, like metal roofs?

Now let’s hear from Tom.

What could be more charming than a picture of a sleeping pig next to the hot tub? You need never bathe alone…

This is a Russian River resort (if by Russian River resort, we actually mean a place that’s more than 2 miles from the closest approach of the Russian River). Just wait for the river to crest and you need never skip bathing.  And by “you” we mean both you and the pig.

3000 SQ FT FALLING DOWN MANSION

130710-santacruz-thermosWe’ve been spending a bit of time in the flatlands, so time to check some elevated listings.  Our thanks to Burbed reader Swan for telling us about this find right off Highway 17. Oops, pending!  Even properties sitting around for almost a year go Pending when someone sends them in! It’s like a Real Estate Thermos. An insulated drink holder keeps hot things hot, and cold things cold. How does it know?

In this case, a correspondent sends in a tired listing… and BOOM! Again, how does it know?

THE MANSION SITE HAS ABOUT 2 FLAT ACRES, SWEEPING MOUNTAIN AND VALLEY VIEWS, CIRCULAR DRIVEWAY, PG & E, & WATER. GUEST HOUSE HAS ABOUT 2 FLAT ACRES WITH DIRECT ACCESS TO LAUREL ROAD. SELLER WILL FINACNE W/ 25% DOWN FOR 3 YEARS.

130710-santacruz-anotherWe don’t have any architecture credentials, but still contend the top picture above is not a cabin.  Now, which of the other two is the “guest house”? Perhaps this is why Swan thought we’d be interested. We certainly seem to have our choice of which crappy building not to live in.

With nothing better to do on a 100 degree day, I am looking for properties in need of some Burbed lovin’!

This may be a Burbed first, a 3000 square foot falling down mansion!!!  Scotts Valley may not be RBA, but $699K (Pending!!!) for a guest house, barn, and falling down mansion on 9 acres – who cares where it is.  Be sure to check out the ideal commute location!

Interestingly, Movoto lists the same address for $5,000,000 in an expired listing.

Oh yes, let’s see that expired listing.

130710-santacruz-gatesMany potential uses/Estate Location/Equestrian Center = Great Trails, Preliminary Study Shows Location may be planted with as many as 130 acres of Grapes – Site is in BEST wine growing location = the Santa Cruz Appleation. Propety suppoorts several homes currently(4); several wells; Barns. Land may be subdividable; there are 9 APN’s Stunning Los Gatos Mountains property, Oaks, Redwoods, Madrone

Unlike the active (whoops, Pending!) listing, this older one can’t be bothered showing any buildings. It’s almost ten million square feet, who needs buildings? That’s 228 acres sitting on the market for 649 days, and only nine acres are in the listing above. That’s pretty good, it took only half the time to sell 1/25th the land!  So if you subdivide this place into a Planned Unit Development with a bunch of 1,800 sf lots, you should be able to get one of them sold in only five months!

Good luck finding what happened to the rest of those properties so you can run some comps. At least the seller will FINACNE W/25% DOWN IN 3 YEARS.  If you’re not sure what to do, just put that FINACNE in your Thermos. How does it know?

Marvelous Mountain View Mansion

Let’s check in with Burbed reader dollarbin again, because Mountain View is awesome. Too bad you can’t have this house.  It went pending, oh phooey, another one that got away! But, you can join in the fun guessing how high the overbids will reach!

THIS PROPERTY HAS A HUGE LOT * HOUSE IS OCCUPIED * LOCATED IN DESIRABLE NEIGHBORHOOD!

130626-sanluppe-otherpicDESIRABLE NEIGHBORHOOD, eh? What does dollarbin have to say about this listing?

Speaking of bubbles:

After a week on the market, this Stierlin Estates home got a $100K bump. Let your imagination run wild because apparently the tenants can’t be dislodged long enough to take interior shots. The massive sound wall from the Norman Y Mineta Highway wraps the whole lot in its cozy shadow.

The two pictures above are all the agent bothered to share. We can also confirm the 16.67% price increase.

130626-sanluppe-history

And the soundwall. Click for a larger version.

Wow, we’d hate to see this agent’s idea of an UNDESIRABLE NEIGHBORHOOD.

Rhinestone in the Rough of Redwood City

Feeling a little stomped by the THERE IS NO HOUSING BUBBLE IN THE BAY AREA? Here’s a property for under $750K! There was a time when you could have bought this house with a $729K conforming loan, but then the government had to change the rules on us. A 2BR 1BA single family residential located in a very desirable area west of Redwood City, near the border of Atherton. A diamond in the rough, this starter home has great potential and with some TLC and creativity, can transform into a charming house with picket fences and great curb appeal. Near Woodside Shopping Complex, transportation, school and other commercial establishments.

130621-alexander-kitchen130621-alexander-carpet130621-alexander-trashbins

The house may need some TLC and creativity, but the picket fences are already there and are painted white for your convenience. Now just work on the curb appeal: check out that Streetview below, and did they have to feature the trash bins in two different listing photos?

Also practice saying “West Atherton” a bunch.

On the market for 13 days… or since 2012

2166 UNIVERSITY Ave, East Palo Alto, CA 94303

20130618university

Whoa, this has been on the market for 13 days already? And it hasn’t been snapped up despite the prestigious University Avenue address? What’s going on???

Wait a minute! I’m getting that déjà vu feeling all over again. Where have I seen this before?

Are you ready for 2012 – you know, end of the world and all that?

2166 UNIVERSITY Ave
East Palo Alto, CA 94303

$650,000

Huh. Go figure. 1 year, 1 month later, this house is once again on the market.

Ok, so we all survived the apocalypse and brain eating undead zombies. But, how do we know that it wasn’t a simple off-by-one error and that the world won’t end this year? I bet you could spray paint some silver paint onto that fence and make it look all metal-y. (Of course, someone by then steal your faux metal fence and be sorely disappointed at the scrapper…)

Are you concerned about the end of the world? Are you concerned about privacy? If so, why aren’t you concerned that you don’t own this house already?

Upcoming Open Houses

Saturday, Jun 1: 1:00-5:00 pm
Sunday, Jun 2: 10:30-5:00 pm

Regular sale! Great schools + Neighborhood + Quiet Cul-de-sac. Convenient to shopping. Near 880, 84 Freeways, & Ranch99 Supermarket. Open House Sat 6/1 1-5pm & Sun 6/2 10:30-5pm.

130527-salinas-streetviewSee that? Regular sale! Not an overbidding sale! Whew!  Only showing on exterior shot fooled us at first!

And this agent isn’t quite sure who to sell this house to. Note the mention of nearby 99 Ranch but not a single 8 in the price.

Also, you know how Palo Alto has 237 different neighborhoods, or “Communities” on MLS, but Sunnyvale, which has twice the population, only has one?  Look at this: Fremont, which was made up of five towns that merged together, doesn’t even merit its own Community. They put the whole thing together into Alameda County.  Sheesh, Wikipedia has a nice list of the various districts in Fremont and we were able to figure out where the house is (hint: the exact opposite of South not-Fremont).

Moral: the less Real Bay Area you are, the less Community you merit.  Houses in Stockton are in Community: Pacific Time Zone.
