This, more than any listing as of late proves how amazingly freakin’ special the Bay Area is. You could only be so lucky as to own a home like this.

No kitchen, no bath, part of the structure falling off? Can you say instant equity?

$939,000

* Status: Active

* Year Built: 1994
* Lot Size: 5227
* Square Footage: 1189

HERE IS THE OPORTUNITY TO OWN A NICE HOUSE IN THE DESIRED MOUNTAIN VIEW AREA, WITH PERFECT LOCATION ACROSS FROM PARK AND SUPERMARKETS, NICE 3 BED 2 BATH ONLY 14 YEARS OLD.

Between soaring incomes, and some price trims, Mountain View is getting affordable. For example, this house was featured on Burbed about a year ago as well:

Since then, things have changed a little. The market has corrected, and it has bottomed out. YES THIS IS THE BOTTOM MY FRIENDS.

Also, the other thing that changed about this house was that last year, they didn’t know when it was built – but now, they’ve concluded that it was built 14 years ago. That’s the kind of amazing research we can do only here in Silicon Valley.

$20k off. Why aren’t you jumping at buying this house? Are you really that fussy? Sheesh.

Burbed Reader Rohit adds:

I read your blog every now and then for a good laugh. Thanks for the fine sarcastic humor!
The yellow Daly City house featured on your site was quite a hit. Well, there is a yellow house in Mountain View as well which deserves mention – 140 S Rengstorff Ave Mountain View 94040 (MLS#: 800437)

I began looking up houses on www.mlslistings.com last year in September. This house was listed on 09/27/07 (possibly much earlier) at $875,000. By 10/27/07, the price had dropped to 819,988. I stopped tracking prices for a while after that. I restarted looking at prices this month, and now I find the same house listed at $939,000! Sweet 14% appreciation in less than 6 months! It looks like the house was taken off the list and re-listed on 04/08/2008 for $939k. Impressive appreciation for a house which has been sitting on the market for more than 9 months now. Maybe because it is in zip code 94040! Or, maybe simply because it is yellow.

It’s a roller coaster ride for sure – and as we all know, roller coasters end at the top, not at the bottom. Or something like that.

Exceptional Value in Farm Hill Estates, Quiet and Desirable street, Open Kitchen/Family room, Spacious Living Room/Dining Room Combination with Large Picture Windows and Wood Burning Fireplace, Hardwood Floors as well as Double Paned Windows Throughout, Dining Room could be converted back to Fourth Bedroom. Excellent Roy Cloud School (K through 8)

The anonymous Burbed reader who submitted this thought I should make note of the fact this house is pink. Like Pepto Bismol pink. Pink sure is a popular color in Redwood City – I think this one is even better than the Valentine’s Day special one.

I suppose one could also fall in love with this house because it is in Farm Hill Estate. When I see this house, and it’s 8,400 sqft lot, estate is definitely the first thing I think of.

But really, for me, the big catch is that the dining room can be converted back to the fourth bedroom. I really wonder how this works. With this make a cool transforming sound like in Transformers? Does this use nano-technology? Perhaps the floor flips when you move a vase and press a button – thus converting the room from a dining room to a bedroom. The imagination wanders!

What do you like best about this house?

Property was built as church and is still, currently used as a church. Some remodeling needed to convert to a residence. Structure size est. 3000 . Sanctuary has high ceilings. Parking lot for 17 cars provides plenty of room to add a garage.

Wow… now this is pretty unusual. It’s not every day that you can buy a church – especially one that has room for 17 cars.

Just think of the partying opportunities this would provide! Here are some more photos:

Wow… the imagination simply runs wild! What would you do with this amazing property (that wouldn’t ban you to Hell)?

For buyers with good credit and healthy bank accounts, a million dollars buys a lot more home than it did a few years ago.

Congrats to Belmont for being featured!!!

Too bad this perfectly good article was ruined by the mention of unlivable Connecticut:

Maybe next time the piece feature only Bay Area residences. One can wish!

This Million dollar house can be a million dollars with some work

Live near downtown Mountain View. Walk to parks and Pete’s Coffee. Great home with decent sized lot. Clean and well landscaped. Room in price for your improvements on kitchens and bathrooms to turn this into a real GEM. Newer roof and HVAC.
Lot size has been corrected to reflect County records. With 5076 sf well landscaped, you are ready to enjoy this home from the start. Even if you have only the slightest creative abilities, you can see that the basic layout of this home provides any buyer an opportunity to really do some fun things on the interior with bathrooms and the kitchen. This is a home that I would want to own myself. As a licensed General Contractor, I see this home as being easy to work on and improve to that million dollar level that other comps on the market are priced at. If you look at size and location, it has all of that. It doesn’t take a whole lot of imagination to see the potential in this home. I would be happy to show this home anytime. Feel free to call me with any questions. There should be some flyers in the box out in the front of the house. By the way, the owners are willing to get creative with financing. All of which would be subject to lender approval.

So let me get this straight… with some work, this million dollar house can be as great as… a million dollar house!

WOW! What an opportunity!

That’s the one advantage homeowners have over renters: freedom to improve their housing. Poor renters, never able to spend money on their residences, never being able to spend their weekends mowing the lawn, fixing the roof, fixing the bathroom, or fixing the kitchen. They’re just throwing their money away when they could instead be investing in assets like remodelling.

Talk about a deal!

$1 million, 500 sqft, Belmont – panic room in the Bay Area?

MLS-2.com: Property Details
3858 W Naughton AV, Belmont,CA,94002 – $995,000

3858bel.jpg1 Beds 917 Sq.Ft. Aprx. 2 Car Garage MLS#: 765725

Description – 3858 W Naughton AV, Belmont,CA,94002
Brand new Mediterranean hideaway on 12,750 sq lot. 500 sq ft living (NO TYPO-500 SQ FT) Secluded cul-de-sac location. Unobstructed San Francisco Views. Extensive deck space w/outdoor fireplace. Under construction now! Estimated completion February 2008.

That’s right folks – not a typo! Sure it says 917 sqft in the listing, but really it’s 500 sqft. This is important because in the Bay Area, we’re so into the environment that we look for smaller places so we can buy less stuff and be more green.

Here’s what I’m guessing, the house itself is 500 sqft, but the garage is 417 sqf – hence the 917 sqft. Just check out the picture above! That’s huge! It’s almost big enough for a second residence (nudgenudgewinkwink).

Either that, or maybe the 500 sqft is above ground, but the remaining 417 sqft is below ground – you know, part of your “hideaway” as mentioned above. Can someone say, panic room?

Thanks to Burbed Reader Ed for this find!

The $910,000 tear down in Cupertino, or not.

Reports
MLS: 759027 7526ra.jpg

Burbed reader Jennifer sent this winner in. Let’s see what she had to say:

I drive by this eyesore almost everyday, it is in the “highly
sought after” Monta Vista neighborhood of Cupertino.
I thought for sure no one would buy it… WRONG!
It is sale pending already…  The interior must be so terrible
that the listing said “no open house available”!  Maybe
the listing agent didn’t want to be stuck in this rat-infested
house for 4 hours?

Well, I hate to break this to you Jennifer, but it won’t be an eyesore for much longer. You see, it’s now pending. That means, soon this house will be torn down, and a new 2000 sqft palace (another $500k) will be built in its place.

The reason why this was so expensive was because the rats infesting it went to Monta Vista, so they’re really darn smart rats. They’re also in all the right clubs like the RFBLA (Rodent Future Business Leader Association). I hear most of them are going to get into the top school of their choice.

Actually, maybe this house won’t be torn down. Frankly, it’s no worse than many other houses in similar price ranges in the Bay Area. It’s classic evidence that Bay Area homes don’t need any maintenance. I bet the next owners will simply move in.

What do you think?

Excellent Midtown location! Quiet Cul-de-sac. Charming rancher, original condition, add your upgrades, make it special for you! Lovely backyard, perfect for entertaining, kids & pets. Excellent PA schools (buyer to verify attendance).

Finally, after a recent surge of ridiculously priced homes comes one that makes the Bay Area pride. At $1149 per square foot, this Palo Alto house highlights the excellence of the Bay Area. Why so much? Uh, have you heard of Facebook, Google, or VMWare?

If I could, I would feature houses like this day after day on Burbed. With some hope, some government assistance, some assistance from renters, and more – I just know we can do it!

What will you do to help us reach this goal?
